Milan's most iconic race, from the half marathon to a people's festival
Stramilano is the most famous running event in Milan and one of the most historic in Italy. Born in the early seventies, it has evolved over the decades into an event that blends competitive sport with popular celebration, attracting tens of thousands of participants every year.
The day features three routes designed for different audiences. The Stramilano Half Marathon (21 km) is the competitive race, starting from Piazza Castello with a fast, flat course ideal for personal bests. The non-competitive 10 km and the Stramilanina (5 km), dedicated to families and amateurs, start from Piazza Duomo, the symbolic heart of the event.
The charm of Stramilano also lies in its itinerary, which passes through some of the city's most recognizable landmarks: Piazza Castello and Sforza Castle, Porta Venezia, Porta Garibaldi, and the Darsena area. Cheering points along the route accompany runners mile after mile in an atmosphere of collective enthusiasm.
For Milan, Stramilano is an identity-defining event, a Sunday when the city reclaims its streets, transforming them into a grand course for running and celebration. Between professional runners, amateurs, families, and curious onlookers, the event annually celebrates the bond between sport and the city community.
The 2026 edition of Stramilano, the 53rd, takes place on Sunday, May 3. The Half Marathon (21 km) starts at 8:30 AM from Piazza Castello on a fast, flat circuit; the non-competitive 10 km starts at 10:00 AM from Piazza Duomo; the 5 km Stramilanina, for families and amateurs, starts at 9:30 AM, also from the Duomo.
The event's godmother is champion Francesca Lollobrigida. The Half Marathon, with 10,000 spots, was already sold out by mid-April, indicating the event's great popularity.
