The medieval village of Galliano transforms into an immersive stage for street arts
In the heart of Tuscany, just a stone's throw from Lake Bilancino, the small medieval village of Galliano, a hamlet of Barberino di Mugello (Province of Florence), hosts the annual Stradarte – Street Arts Festival. For an entire weekend in July, the cobbled streets, small squares, and the most picturesque corners of the historic center are transformed into a vast, sprawling stage, brought to life by artists from all over Italy and numerous local talents.
The festival features over a hundred performances spread across two days, from late afternoon until late at night. The program is a kaleidoscope of disciplines: theater and dance companies, performers and jugglers, singers and bands, as well as poets, painters, sculptors, and artisans who occupy permanent stations along the route. The atmosphere is that of a grand community celebration, where art leaves the theaters and reaches people directly, tucked away in the village's alleys.
The 2026 edition, the sixth of the event, revolves around the theme of the four elements – fire, air, earth, and water, which inspires the artists' performances and the layout of the stations in the historic center. A poetic thread that connects shows, exhibitions, and installations, inviting the public on an immersive journey through the arts.
One of the most beloved features of Stradarte is the "hat-passing" model: admission is completely free, and artists perform without a fixed fee, supported by the voluntary contributions left by the audience. This choice makes the festival accessible to everyone and creates a direct bond between the performer and the spectator.
Alongside the performances, there is a convivial side: a craft market and various food stalls, managed by the Pro Loco and the Oratorio ANSPI of Galliano, offer typical Mugello specialties. Strolling through the village streets thus means combining the discovery of art with the pleasure of good Tuscan food.
Founded in 2017, Stradarte is organized by the Pro Loco of Galliano with the technical and artistic collaboration of Periscopio Comunicazione and the presence of the Oratorio ANSPI, under the patronage of the Municipality of Barberino di Mugello and the Unione Montana dei Comuni del Mugello. Edition after edition, the event has grown, establishing itself as one of the most vibrant appointments of the Tuscan cultural summer and a precious opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Tuscany, between history, nature, and creativity.
On July 10 and 11, 2026, the village of Galliano, in Barberino di Mugello, comes alive again with the sixth edition of Stradarte. The festival offers over a hundred performances including theater, music, dance, juggling, poetry, painting, and sculpture, with street artists from all over Italy.
The theme of the edition is the four elements: fire, air, earth, and water, which guides the performances and the setup of the stations. The shows take place from late afternoon until night. There will also be a craft market and food stalls with Mugello specialties.
