An evening of art and cuisine at the castle of Montemale, in Valle Grana
In the small town of Montemale di Cuneo, perched on the slopes of the Valle Grana in the province of Cuneo (Piedmont), the "Spunti d'arte" series presents an event dedicated to one of the great masters of the 20th century, Marc Chagall. The evening takes place in the evocative Sala della Trattoria del Castello and combines, in a now-signature format, art discussion with fine mountain dining.
The meeting on Chagall is part of the second edition of the series, titled "The Sky of Art – From Stars to Spaceships": a monthly journey from October to February that travels through four municipalities of Valle Grana — Caraglio, Monterosso Grana, Bernezzo, and Montemale — exploring art through the themes of the sky, stars, and imagination. Chagall, with his suspended figures and blue skies populated by lovers, violinists, and upside-down villages, is a natural choice for this voyage between earth and firmament.
The evening is led by Domenico Olivero, the artistic curator of the series, who recounts the life and journey of the Belarusian-born painter using accessible language designed to bring art closer to a broad, non-specialist audience. The talk is free and open to the public.
At the end of the talk, those who wish may stay for an optional dinner featuring local products: the absolute star is the Montemale black truffle, accompanied by local cheeses from the Terra del Castelmagno and traditional Piedmontese dishes. This is the most original aspect of "Spunti d'arte": the idea that culture is also nourished by taste, meeting, and community.
The series is organized by the Associazione La Cevitou – Ecomuseo Terra del Castelmagno, with the support of the Fondazione CRC and the Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Caraglio, and is part of a broader effort to promote Valle Grana. More than just a single event, "Spunti d'arte" is a way to bring the small villages of the upper valley to life even during the winter months, weaving together art, gastronomy, and local identity.
On Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 7:00 PM, the Sala della Trattoria del Castello in Montemale di Cuneo hosted the "Spunti d'arte" meeting dedicated to Marc Chagall, titled "Living in the Sky." The talk, led by Domenico Olivero, retraced the life and work of the painter, amidst blue skies, suspended figures, and fairy-tale atmospheres. This was followed by an optional dinner featuring the flavors of Valle Grana.
The event was one of the stops on the second edition of the "The Sky of Art – From Stars to Spaceships" series, which ran from October 2025 to February 2026 across the municipalities of Caraglio, Monterosso Grana, Bernezzo, and Montemale.
The meeting is part of the "The Sky of Art – From Stars to Spaceships" series, the second edition of "Spunti d'arte" in Valle Grana.
