The Aosta Valley cattle breed is the star of the Mont-Cervin Unit's spring show
The Aosta Valley cattle breed is one of the symbols of the agricultural and cultural identity of the Aosta Valley: hardy, suited to high-altitude pastures, and also featured in the famous Batailles de Reines (Cow Fights). Every spring, the AREV - Association Régionale Éleveurs Valdôtains organizes a series of zootechnical reviews in the region to promote this breed and the work of breeders.
The review held in Châtillon (Province of Aosta) brings together breeders from the Unité des Communes Mont-Cervin, a district that includes Antey-Saint-André, Chambave, Chamois, Châtillon, La Magdeleine, Pontey, Saint-Denis, Saint-Vincent, Torgnon, Valtournenche, and Verrayes. Breeders present their best animals, which are judged and exhibited to the public in a day that is both a technical event and a celebration of the farming community.
The spring reviews organized by AREV mark the agricultural calendar of the Aosta Valley, heralding the summer pasture season. They are a valuable opportunity to discover mountain zootechnics up close and to understand the deep connection between the Aosta Valley breed, the landscape, and the economy of the alpine valleys. The Châtillon event is one of the first spring stops on the regional circuit.
On Thursday, March 26, 2026, Châtillon will host the spring zootechnical review of the Mont-Cervin Unit, organized by AREV - Association Régionale Éleveurs Valdôtains. The show will bring together breeders from Antey-Saint-André, Chambave, Chamois, Châtillon, La Magdeleine, Pontey, Saint-Denis, Saint-Vincent, Torgnon, Valtournenche, and Verrayes, who will present the best animals of the Aosta Valley cattle breed. It is one of the first events on the spring calendar for zootechnical shows in the Aosta Valley.
Precise times will be announced by AREV closer to the event. The review opens the spring calendar, which continues in Villeneuve (April 1), Quart (April 2), Pont-Saint-Martin (April 11), La Salle (April 14), Etroubles (April 16), and Brusson (April 18).
The exhibition of the best animals of the Aosta Valley cattle breed from the breeders of the Mont-Cervin Unit.
Châtillon is located along the A5 motorway (Châtillon-Saint-Vincent exit) and the SS26 state road, about 25 km from Aosta. The Châtillon-Saint-Vincent train station is on the Aosta–Turin line.
The review takes place in spring; in 2026, it is scheduled for Thursday, March 26.
