The historic peasant fair of Carpaneto, featuring tractors, animals, and flavors of the Val d'Arda
The Spring Agricultural Fair is one of the oldest and most deeply rooted events in the Piacenza territory. Reaching its 348th edition in 2026, it has its roots in a centuries-old history of trade, commerce, and celebrations linked to the agricultural world. It takes place in the historic center of Carpaneto Piacentino, a municipality in the Val d'Arda in the province of Piacenza, in Emilia-Romagna, where agriculture remains the main economic activity.
For an entire weekend in April, the squares and streets of Carpaneto fill with colors, scents, and sounds. The heart of the fair is the exhibition of the agricultural world: farm animals, modern agricultural machinery, and a fascinating display of vintage tractors that tell the story of the evolution of farm work. There are also live demonstrations, such as the old-fashioned wheat threshing, and the peasant museum with tools and objects from the rural civilization of the past.
The fair is also an opportunity to reflect on the future of agriculture: every year a conference on new agricultural technologies is held, and space is given to the involvement of young farmers, who are the protagonists of the demonstrations. As Mayor Andrea Arfani emphasized, it is "an event designed to interest diverse audiences," capable of enhancing the agricultural sector while looking to new generations. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is that of authentic Emilian village festivals, where the community comes together around its peasant roots.
The 348th edition of the Spring Agricultural Fair enlivened Carpaneto Piacentino from April 17 to 19, 2026, confirming the event as one of the longest-running in Emilia-Romagna. The program blended agricultural, artisanal, and food and wine exhibitions with numerous initiatives designed for all ages, from the peasant museum to photographic and painting exhibitions, from the vintage tractor parade to the evening Agri Party.
Mayor Andrea Arfani described the fair as "an event designed to interest diverse audiences," with particular attention to the involvement of young people and the relaunch of the agricultural sector, the heart of Carpaneto's economy.
Throughout the event: farmers' market, stalls, food stands with typical Piacenza products, and entertainment activities.
Carpaneto Piacentino is located in the Val d'Arda, about 20 km southeast of Piacenza. By car, it can be reached from the A1 motorway (Piacenza Sud exit) or the A21, continuing along the SP6. The nearest train station is Piacenza, which is then connected to the town by local bus lines.
The fair takes place every year in spring, over three days (usually a weekend in April). The official inauguration is held on Sunday morning.
Free admission to all exhibition areas and events. For information: IAT Valnure e Valchero, tel. +39 0523 870997, [email protected], or the Municipality of Carpaneto Piacentino.
