The Sports Festival is one of the most popular events on the calendar in Nardò, a city in the province of Lecce, in the heart of the Salento region of Puglia. For one afternoon, the event transforms the Area Mercatale in the Zona 167 into a large open-air showcase dedicated to the local sports scene, where clubs, associations, and sports bodies introduce themselves to the public.

A city that lives for sport

The initiative was created to highlight sport as a tool for inclusion, well-being, social cohesion, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. Nardò has a very vibrant sports scene: from team sports to individual disciplines, and from martial arts to dance, numerous associations keep the area active all year round. The Sports Festival is the moment when this community of associations comes together to show its unity to the citizens.

How it works

The format combines space and spectacle: each association has its own area within the market square to present and promote its discipline through equipped booths and demonstration activities. This is complemented by performances and official presentations on the stage set up by the Municipal Administration, where each group has a few minutes to share their story with the audience. The event also includes awards and recognition for athletes and clubs that have distinguished themselves during the season.

The event is designed to be accessible to everyone: citizens, families, children, and teenagers can get to know different disciplines, try out the proposed activities, and discover the local sports offerings. Admission is free, and participation is open to anyone who wants to enjoy a day dedicated to movement and the values of sport.

The Sports Festival is part of the broader Puglia European Region of Sport 2026 program, which celebrates Puglian communities that use sport as a driver for social growth. For Nardò, the event is also a source of civic pride, successfully attracting a large audience despite the competition of the summer beach season.
