The great summer festival of Spormaggiore, celebrating the history, traditions, and flavors of the Val di Non
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Val di Non, at the gateway to the Paganella Plateau, the village of Spormaggiore (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige) hosts its most popular annual event: Sporgrant de na Volta. The festival transforms the historic center into a vibrant community hub where tradition, memory, and conviviality intertwine for an entire weekend.
The event began in 2022 under the name Ors an Festa a Sporgrant, dedicated to the bear—a symbol of Spormaggiore thanks to the historic Belpark wildlife center located just outside the town, home to bears, wolves, lynxes, foxes, birds of prey, and other alpine animals. For three years, the bear served as the common thread for an event that combined fun, food, and awareness of alpine fauna. In 2025, the festival reinvented itself as Sporgrant de na Volta, reviving the popular 'de na volta' (of yesteryear) format and shifting the focus to the history and traditions of the village and its people.
The culinary heart of the festival is its traditional local cuisine. A must-try is the famous tortel di patate (potato fritter) of Spormaggiore, served with cured meats, cheeses, beans, and sauerkraut, accompanied by polenta with stew, grilled meats, and traditional desserts like apple fritters and strudel. One of the most spectacular attractions is the record-breaking strudel, prepared by volunteers and measuring over 15 meters in length.
The village's memory comes alive through a widespread photographic exhibition in the town center, featuring images of Spormaggiore from the 1960s and 70s, screenings of historical footage, and activities proposed by the METS Trentino Ethnographic Museum. Volunteers in period costumes bring the streets to life with games, art workshops, wood carving, and scenes of daily life from the past, while evenings are filled with live music, DJ sets, and comedy shows.
Sporgrant de na Volta is, above all, a testament to the spirit of volunteerism: over 120 volunteers from various local associations work together to set up and run the event. The festival is a defining moment for the identity of Spormaggiore and the entire Val di Non, attracting visitors from across the Trentino region.
The 2026 edition of Sporgrant de na Volta is expected in Spormaggiore, in the Val di Non, following the successful previous editions dedicated to the history and traditions of the village. As of today, the official 2026 dates have not yet been published: the festival is usually held on the first weekend of August. To find out the final dates and program, please check the website and Facebook page of the Pro Loco Spormaggiore APS.
