A participatory arts and community festival in Val Grande National Park
The Sorgente Viva Festival is much more than just an event: it is the culmination of a five-month journey that, from February to June, involves the residents of Premosello-Chiovenda and the hamlet of Colloro, in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Piedmont. Promoted by the artistic collective Progetto RESCUE!, the festival weaves artistic practices with local knowledge, transforming town squares, forest trails, and public spaces into hubs for meeting and shared creation.
The festival is the final destination of a programme of free activities spanning winter and spring: Open Dialogue meetings on regenerative arts, the B.A.R. (Bottega Aperta per Ritrovare) creative workshop, the Coro della Sorgente choir directed by Valentina Volontè, accessible walks along the Sentieri Condivisi in Bosco Tenso, folk dance sessions with the Comunità Danzante, and intergenerational theatre projects by La Cura, which bring together local seniors and kindergarten children.
The festival's guiding thread is water, understood as a source of life and a symbol of the bond between people and the alpine landscape of Val Grande. This theme inspires open discussions on environmental protection, the Toce River, and biodiversity, as well as documentary screenings, collective rituals like La Raccolta delle Acque (The Gathering of Waters), and participatory processions descending from the villages to the valley floor.
Activities take place in various locations across the territory: the Circolo di Colloro, the Piazzetta del Circolo, the Pro Loco spaces, the Latteria Turnaria di Cuzzago, and the trails of Bosco Tenso. Everything is free and open to everyone, regardless of age, background, or experience. The Sorgente Viva Festival is supported by the Otto per mille of the Waldensian Church and the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, with the patronage of the Municipality of Premosello-Chiovenda.
Premosello-Chiovenda can be reached by car via the A26 motorway (Verbania-Gravellona Toce exit) and then along the state road towards Ossola. By train, the Premosello-Chiovenda station is on the Domodossola-Milan line. The village of Colloro is a few minutes' drive from the town centre.
All activities are free and open to all. Social dinners on both evenings require prior reservation.
