The Slow Tourism Festival in Bracciano

The Slow Tourism Festival is a widespread event that, for an entire autumn weekend, transforms Bracciano (a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region) into an open-air laboratory dedicated to slow travel. The motto that accompanies it, where you go slowly but not far, summarizes a precise philosophy: walking and cycling, observing and listening, learning and tasting, prioritizing the experience of the territory over the kilometers covered.

The first edition, presented as a pilot edition, took place from October 3 to 5, 2025, and was born with the ambition of becoming an annual appointment for the Lake Bracciano and Roman Tuscia area.

A widespread festival between the lake, woods, and historic center

The event does not have a single stage but unfolds in various locations throughout the village and its landscape. The heart of the festival is the Civic Museum of Bracciano, the evocative Cloister of the Augustinians, and the Historical Archive in Piazza Mazzini, to which the waters of the lake, the surrounding woods, and the trails of the Tolfa Mountains are added. Slow tourism thus also becomes a way to tell the story of the volcanic geology, biodiversity, and the network of paths that cross this part of Lazio.

The program: walks, cycling, and science

The program intertwines outdoor activities and cultural meetings. The days open with excursions on foot and by bicycle, such as the Templar Ring in the Tolfa Mountains or the 5 Mills Way in the Biedano gorges, and with boat trips on Lake Bracciano guided by researchers from the CNR. Saturday is dedicated to the Science Day, with interactive tables, nature workshops, readings, and exhibitions involving museums, parks, and local experts.

Exhibitions, workshops, and family activities

Ample space is reserved for exhibitions hosted in the cloisters and the Civic Museum, from cyanotype herbariums to nature illustrations, up to the geological exhibition dedicated to the stones of Rome and Lazio. There is no shortage of workshops for children and families, from the read-aloud sessions of the Nati per Leggere program to kite making, as well as wellness proposals such as walks with somatic practice and Tai Chi sessions immersed in the San Celso Woods.

Music, words, and solidarity

Each day concludes with moments of storytelling and music: readings on cycling, shows that combine jazz and words, and toasts with wines from local wineries. The festival also has a charitable soul: fundraising supports the Hope association, committed to the inclusion of neurodivergent people. All initiatives are free to enter and participate in.

Bracciano and slow tourism in Tuscia

Overlooking the volcanic lake and dominated by the Orsini-Odescalchi Castle, the village of Bracciano is the ideal starting point for exploring the Roman Tuscia at a slow pace. The Slow Tourism Festival, promoted by the Ti con Zero ETS association as part of the Cammino dei Vulcani project and with the patronage of the Municipality of Bracciano, enhances this vocation, inviting residents and visitors to rediscover the landscape, history, and flavors of the territory by moving on foot, by bicycle, or by boat.
