Four days of literature, art, science, and current affairs at Villa Patti, Caltagirone
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Sikelia Cultural Festival is a multidisciplinary event held in Caltagirone, the city of ceramics in the province of Catania, in the heart of Sicily. Set within the grounds and gardens of Villa Patti, the festival brings together literature, art, science, and current affairs for four days of debates, book presentations, artistic performances, screenings, and concerts under the stars.
The common thread of the event is the dialogue between contemporary languages and Mediterranean geographies: each edition focuses on the Sicilian identity as a bridge between cultures, intertwining local dimensions with a global perspective. The days are organized by thematic areas—one dedicated to literature and publishing, one to visual arts, one to science, and one to current affairs and civil rights—allowing the public to follow coherent paths or be surprised by the intersections between disciplines.
The festival is promoted by the Sikelia Festival Association, with artistic direction by Giuseppe Federico and Annalisa Guzzardi. The event is supported by the City University of New York (CUNY), the University of Catania, and the UNESCO Network of the Val di Noto, confirming the international reach of a project that, while young, is already deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of the Calatino area. The festival is part of the "Hot Cult" summer program of the Municipality of Caltagirone.
Caltagirone, recognized by UNESCO for its late Baroque architecture of the Val di Noto, is world-famous for its ceramic tradition and the monumental Santa Maria del Monte Staircase. The Sikelia Festival adds a contemporary vocation to this heritage, making the city a place for exchange between knowledge and generations.
