The Santa Maria patronal feast and the flavors of Italy, just outside Rome
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Setteville Regional Festival is a unique event in the Lazio region: rather than celebrating a single local product, it showcases the collective culinary traditions of all Italian regions. The reason lies in the history of the area itself. Setteville is a district of Guidonia Montecelio, in the province of Rome, which grew rapidly in the second half of the 20th century by welcoming families from every corner of the country. From these roots, the idea was born to create a festival where each community brings the dishes of their homeland to the square.
The festival is the highlight of the patronal feast organized by the Santa Maria Parish in Setteville, which traditionally takes place over several days in the first half of September. Alongside the food stalls, the event balances a religious program—solemn masses, a procession with the image of the Madonna through the neighborhood streets, and prayer services—with a secular one, featuring musical evenings, performances, and entertainment. It is a grassroots celebration managed by parish volunteers and neighborhood committees, with proceeds supporting the community's pastoral and social activities.
The square in front of the church on Via Ludovico Muratori fills with stalls set up by the various regional communities living in Setteville. In recent editions, up to nine regions have participated, each offering their own specialties:
There are also beverage stands serving beer, wine, and soft drinks, along with an area with tables for outdoor dining. Prices remain typical of neighborhood festivals: affordable portions, with direct payment at each stall.
Evenings are accompanied by live music and entertainment designed for all ages: dance orchestras, folk music groups, and performances by local dance schools. For children, there are inflatables, games, and workshops, while craft and candy stalls line the street. The event often concludes with a fireworks display or a final concert on Sunday evening.
Reaching its 27th edition in 2024, the festival is now a staple of the September calendar in the province of Rome, alongside the grape festivals and the sagre of the Castelli Romani. Its strength lies in its authenticity: no commercial organization, just families who have spent days cooking their home recipes. For those arriving from Rome or the Tiburtino area, it is a simple way to take a gastronomic tour of Italy in a single evening, just a few kilometers from the Grande Raccordo Anulare.
The event usually takes place between the first and second weekend of September, from Friday to Sunday, with stalls opening in the late afternoon (typically from 5 PM). The main day is Sunday, featuring the procession, lunch, and the final evening. Exact dates are announced by the parish and organizing committees a few weeks before the event.
The Setteville Regional Festival returns, according to tradition, in September 2026 in Guidonia Montecelio, in the province of Rome. Precise dates have not yet been published: in recent years, the event has taken place between the first and second weekend of the month, from Friday to Sunday.
The established format includes food stalls from the regional communities present in the neighborhood—Sicily, Puglia, Abruzzo, Calabria, Campania, Umbria, Marche, Veneto, and Lazio—alongside the religious program of the Santa Maria patronal feast, featuring masses and a procession, as well as live music evenings and children's entertainment. Admission is traditionally free, and you only pay for what you consume at the stalls.
The detailed program is released by the Santa Maria Parish in Setteville and on the festival's Facebook page. We will update this page as soon as the official 2026 dates are confirmed.
