About SempreVerde

SempreVerde is a major biennial project through which the Teatro Verde in Rome celebrates forty years of theatre for children, teenagers, and families. In the heart of Trastevere, the theatre's historic hall, courtyards, arena, and portico come alive with a festival featuring shows, workshops, animated readings, and puppetry. Winner of the 'Roma Creativa 365' grant, the initiative unites the community around a historic cultural landmark of the Capital, with free admission.

Forty years of children's theatre in the heart of Rome

The Teatro Verde, a historic bastion of children's theatre located on the Circonvallazione Gianicolense, opposite Trastevere station, is celebrating its forty-year milestone with SempreVerde, an ambitious biennial project spanning 2025 and 2026. Founded in 1985, the Teatro Verde has been a national reference point for theatre dedicated to young audiences for decades, and this anniversary serves as an opportunity to bring the community back within its walls, in the XII Municipality of Rome.

A two-part journey

SempreVerde was a winner of the Roma Creativa 365 – Culture all year round public call, promoted by the Rome Capital Department of Culture in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura. The first part took place in September 2025 with a grand four-day festival featuring free admission; the second part continues in the spring of 2026, from March to May, as part of the 40th season of the Oltre la scena National Festival. In total, the project involves over 8,000 children, teenagers, families, and teachers.

Shows, workshops, and magic

The program simultaneously animates all the theatre's spaces: the main hall, the foyer, the courtyards, the arena, and the portico. The days are filled with:

  • Shows for young audiences featuring companies from all over Italy;
  • Creative workshops on puppetry, murals, lanterns, collage, and circus arts;
  • Animated readings, storytellers, and live narrations;
  • Marionettes, puppets, and figure theatre;
  • Music, dance, and short clowning performances.

A theatre that is a community

Under the artistic direction of Veronica Olmi, SempreVerde strengthens the bond between theatre, community, and the local area, with special attention to cultural accessibility and inclusion. It is not just a series of shows, but a way to celebrate theatre as a place for meeting, growth, and active citizenship. For Rome and the entire Lazio region, the Teatro Verde remains one of the few spaces entirely dedicated to young audiences—a heritage to be cherished and nurtured.

How to participate

Many events during the 40th-anniversary festival offer free admission, with mandatory booking subject to availability. The theatre is easily accessible due to its proximity to Trastevere station and numerous tram and bus lines.

SempreVerde — edition 2026

The second part of the SempreVerde project animated the spring of 2026 at the Teatro Verde in Rome. From March until the grand finale in May, as part of the 40th 'Oltre la scena' National Festival, the Trastevere stage welcomed families and school groups every weekend with classic fairy tales and contemporary stories, featuring puppets, actors, and live music.

In the spring of 2026, the Teatro Verde completed its two-year 40th-anniversary journey with the second part of SempreVerde. From March until the grand finale in May, the programming for children and teenagers featured some of the most beloved titles from the fairy tale repertoire, with matinées for schools and weekend appointments for families.
