About Sea Festival

The Sea Festival in Terracina is the new identity of the historic Madonna del Carmine Festival, a maritime tradition dating back to 1852 centered around the SS. Salvatore church. For nearly a week in July, the Fisherman's Village at Piazzale Stella Polare comes alive with free concerts, a street food village featuring over twenty chefs, and the evocative sea procession of the Madonna's statue, escorted by decorated boats toward the Circeo promontory, culminating in a grand fireworks display over the harbor.

A maritime tradition alive since 1852

The Sea Festival of Terracina, in the province of Latina, is the name under which the city has presented its most cherished event since 2026: the Madonna del Carmine Festival. Its origins trace back to 1852, when a confraternity was founded around the Santissimo Salvatore church in the Borgo Pio district, supported by the authentic popular devotion of the local fishing community. By the early 20th century, the Madonna del Carmine became the patron saint of Terracina's seafaring people, and since then, the third week of July has defined the city's calendar: as the organizers note, "it is not just a festival; it is a story that continues to walk with us."

The sea procession of the Madonna del Carmine

The religious heart of the event remains unchanged: the solemn mass at the SS. Salvatore church and the procession that accompanies the statue of the Madonna through the streets of the Marina to the harbor. Here, the most moving moment takes place: the sea procession, with a parade of boats decorated with nets, flowering branches, and seashells, transporting the statue from the port of Terracina toward the Circeo promontory. Upon the evening return, the Madonna is welcomed by a grand pyrotechnic show over the sea, the traditional grand finale of the festival.

Concerts and shows at the Fisherman's Village

Alongside the religious dimension, the Sea Festival offers free music and entertainment every evening on the large stage of the Fisherman's Village, set up at Piazzale Stella Polare with views of the Temple of Jupiter Anxur and the canal. The lineup, curated by artistic director Franco Iannizzi, alternates between Italian music stars, tribute bands, and dance nights: in 2026, the opening is entrusted to a concert by Noemi, followed by the Michael Jackson Experience, Tony Tammaro, ReQueen, the Remixxo 70/80/90 night, and the Off Limits tour. The celebrations also involve the SS. Salvatore parish, the Levante and Ponente beaches with traditional games, and Vicolo Rappini with theatrical performances.

The street food village: over twenty chefs from across Italy

The festival is also a gastronomic journey: over twenty street chefs selected from all over Italy offer regional specialties—from Sicilian to Apulian, Marche, and Abruzzese cuisine—alongside international flavors like American barbecue, Mexican, Greek, Indian, Spanish, and Argentine cuisine. There is no shortage of gluten-free and vegan options, artisanal desserts, craft beers, and cocktails from the Drink Lab, with large areas equipped with tables and seating for dining by the sea.

Terracina, between the Temple of Jupiter and the Riviera of Ulysses

Supported by the Municipality of Terracina together with the organizing committee, the Sea Festival is also an opportunity to discover one of the most fascinating locations on the Lazio coast: the Temple of Jupiter Anxur that dominates the city from Monte Sant'Angelo, the upper historic center of Roman and medieval origin, the harbor, and the long beaches of the Riviera of Ulysses. In the height of summer, the festival thus unites maritime identity, popular faith, and seaside vacationing in one great free-entry event.

Sea Festival — edition 2026

From July 14 to 19, 2026, Terracina celebrates the first official edition of the Sea Festival, renewing the historic Madonna del Carmine Festival: six evenings of free concerts at the Fisherman's Village—featuring Noemi at the opening—street food with over twenty chefs, beach games, and, on Sunday, July 19, the sea procession of the Madonna with midnight fireworks.

The 2026 edition marks the debut of the new name Sea Festival, promoted by the Municipality of Terracina and the committee led by Dario Venerelli to embrace both the devotion to the Madonna del Carmine and the popular harbor festival in one great event. From July 14 to 19, the Fisherman's Village at Piazzale Stella Polare hosts free concerts every evening, light displays, and the gastronomic village with over twenty street chefs from across Italy, offering regional specialties, international dishes, gluten-free options, and cocktails from the Drink Lab.

The musical lineup opens on Tuesday, July 14, with a concert by Noemi and continues with the Michael Jackson Experience tribute, Tony Tammaro, ReQueen, the Remixxo 70/80/90 dance night, and the Off Limits tour. Religious celebrations animate the SS. Salvatore parish, while the Levante and Ponente beaches host traditional games and Vicolo Rappini features theatrical performances. On Sunday, July 19, the grand finale: the sea procession of the Madonna del Carmine statue toward the Circeo and, at midnight, the pyrotechnic show over the harbor.
