Great literature arrives in Alfonsine, in the heart of Bassa Romagna
ScrittuRa Festival is one of Romagna's most beloved literary reviews: every year, in May, it transforms the province of Ravenna into a large, widespread stage where literature meets the public. Directed by writer Matteo Cavezzali, the festival features dozens of free-entry events across Ravenna, Lugo, and the Municipalities of Bassa Romagna, including Alfonsine, Bagnacavallo, Cotignola, Fusignano, Sant'Agata sul Santerno, and Castel Bolognese.
In Alfonsine, in the province of Ravenna (Emilia-Romagna), the festival arrives at the Cinema Teatro Gulliver, a historic venue in the town that for the occasion becomes a meeting place for authors and readers. The Alfonsine stop is often part of the review's closing calendar, culminating an intense month of presentations, dialogues, and readings. The event is held with free admission, in line with the festival's philosophy of bringing great literature closer to the widest possible audience.
The strength of ScrittuRa Festival lies in its ability to bring leading names from the national and international literary scene to even the smallest towns in the province, enhancing local libraries, theaters, and cultural spaces. For Alfonsine, this stop represents a moment of cultural appeal that engages with community life and the Municipality's initiatives, helping to make Bassa Romagna a reference point for book and writing enthusiasts.
The Alfonsine stop thus confirms itself as a valuable part of a review that, edition after edition, attracts thousands of attendees throughout the province of Ravenna.
The 2026 edition of ScrittuRa Festival, the thirteenth, took place from Wednesday, May 6 to Friday, May 29, with over twenty free-entry events in Ravenna, Lugo, and the Municipalities of Bassa Romagna. Among the guests of the edition was the Scottish writer Irvine Welsh (author of Trainspotting), Stefania Auci, and the poet Mariangela Gualtieri.
The Alfonsine stop concluded the festival: Friday, May 29, at the Cinema Teatro Gulliver, free admission.
Mensaleri tells an industrial saga that begins in 1868, when Nazzaro Mensa buys the island of Parpai and builds a paper mill there, founding a workers' village. The story spans over a century, between rebellions and labor struggles, until 1995, intertwining technological progress with a mysterious cult that re-emerges each time.
The event in Alfonsine marked the concluding appointment of the thirteenth edition of the festival.
