The Scenari Casamarciano National Theatre Festival is one of the most established theatre events in the province of Naples. Every year, at the beginning of September, the small village of Santa Maria del Plesco, a hamlet of Casamarciano, becomes a charming open-air theatre: its squares and historic spaces host performances, companies, and audiences from all over Italy for an entire week. In 2025, the event reached its 15th edition, confirming its status as a staple in the cultural calendar of Campania.

A national festival between classics and Neapolitan comedy

The festival offers a varied and high-quality program that alternates between reinterpretations of great theatre classics—from Greek comedy to Shakespeare—and productions of the Neapolitan tradition, as well as new contemporary plays. On stage, amateur and professional companies, established actors, and young emerging talents meet in a dialogue that has always been the hallmark of this festival, directed by theatre critic Giulio Baffi.

It is a cultural project that has managed to build, edition after edition, a strong bond between the town, its audience, and the world of theatre, bringing well-known names and popular shows to the Neapolitan province. For the community of Casamarciano, in Campania, Scenari is now much more than a festival: it is an identity-defining event that brings theatre back to the people every September.
