The national theatre festival in the village of Santa Maria del Plesco
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Scenari Casamarciano National Theatre Festival is one of the most established theatre events in the province of Naples. Every year, at the beginning of September, the small village of Santa Maria del Plesco, a hamlet of Casamarciano, becomes a charming open-air theatre: its squares and historic spaces host performances, companies, and audiences from all over Italy for an entire week. In 2025, the event reached its 15th edition, confirming its status as a staple in the cultural calendar of Campania.
The festival offers a varied and high-quality program that alternates between reinterpretations of great theatre classics—from Greek comedy to Shakespeare—and productions of the Neapolitan tradition, as well as new contemporary plays. On stage, amateur and professional companies, established actors, and young emerging talents meet in a dialogue that has always been the hallmark of this festival, directed by theatre critic Giulio Baffi.
The scenic heart of the event is the village of Santa Maria del Plesco, a charming corner of Casamarciano that comes alive in summer thanks to the theatre. The historic setting of the village, with its intimate spaces and atmosphere, makes every evening an experience that goes beyond a simple show: it is a way to rediscover and value a place that defines the local territory.
The festival is promoted by the Municipality of Casamarciano, in collaboration with the Hyria Amateur Theatre Company and with the support of the Campania Region, the Metropolitan City of Naples, and the Italian Federation of Amateur Theatre. It is a cultural project that has managed to build, edition after edition, a strong bond between the town, its audience, and the world of theatre, bringing well-known names and popular shows to the Neapolitan province. For the community of Casamarciano, in Campania, Scenari is now much more than a festival: it is an identity-defining event that brings theatre back to the people every September.
The 2026 edition of Scenari Casamarciano promises to be yet another chapter of a theatre festival that is now historic for the province of Naples. As every year, the festival is expected to enliven the village of Santa Maria del Plesco during the month of September, with a week of evening performances alternating between classics, Neapolitan comedy, and new dramatic works.
At the moment, the official dates and program have not yet been published. As soon as the Municipality of Casamarciano and the artistic direction release the calendar and the titles on the bill, this page will be updated with all practical information.
