Seven nights of calzones, arrosticini, and live music in the village of Scapriano
In Scapriano, a village in the municipality of Teramo in Abruzzo, summer has an unmistakable scent: that of freshly baked calzones. The Calzone Festival, organized by the Scapriano Cultural Association, is a staple of the Teramo July calendar, drawing hundreds of people from the city and neighboring towns every night. The absolute star is the calzone, the stuffed specialty that gives the event its name, served alongside a rich array of traditional Abruzzese dishes.
The festival spans seven consecutive nights. Every evening, starting at 7:00 PM, the food stalls open, while from 9:00 PM the stage comes alive with live music, shows, and dancing. It is a proven formula that combines great food with entertainment, designed for audiences of all ages, from families with children to groups of friends.
The menu revolves around the famous calzone, but the selection is vast: arrosticini (lamb skewers) cooked over charcoal, sausage sandwiches, olive all'ascolana (stuffed fried olives), fried dough with prosciutto, and local cured meats and cheeses. A parade of authentic flavors that tells the story of Abruzzese popular cuisine, to be enjoyed outdoors in the heart of the village.
The evenings take place in Piazzale Eleuterio Di Eleuterio, the area next to the Scapriano sports hall, easily accessible from the center of Teramo. The event is held every year in July and is an opportunity to discover an authentic village in the Abruzzo capital, far from the most beaten tourist paths, and to experience the conviviality typical of local village festivals.
The 2026 edition of the Scapriano Calzone Festival will be held from Monday, July 20th to Sunday, July 26th, 2026, as confirmed by the Scapriano Cultural Association. Seven consecutive nights are confirmed, with food stalls opening at 7:00 PM and live music starting at 9:00 PM in the Piazzale Eleuterio Di Eleuterio, next to the village sports hall. This year, the calzone will once again be accompanied by arrosticini, olive all'ascolana, sausage sandwiches, fried dough with prosciutto, and local Teramo cured meats and cheeses.
The detailed musical program, featuring guest bands for each evening, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
