The Carnival of the Bilingual Isontino

A few kilometers from Gorizia, in the heart of the bilingual Italian-Slovenian territory, Savogna d'Isonzo (in Slovenian Sovodnje ob Soči) has been celebrating its Sovodenjski Pust, the Savogna Carnival, for decades. It is one of the most cherished events of the local community, organized by the Circolo Sloveno Karnival, which each year attracts masked groups and curious onlookers from all over the Isontino region.

Three Days of Celebration

The carnival unfolds over three days, hosted under a heated tent at the Kulturni Dom 'Jožef Češčut'. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the party heats up with live music and DJ sets, while Sunday afternoon brings the highlight: the grand parade of floats and masked groups through the village streets, followed by more music and fun. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is suitable for everyone, including families.

A Cross-Border Tradition

The Sovodenjski Pust is a living expression of the culture of the Slovenian minority in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and the historical bond between border communities. The event is part of the calendar of events of the regional Pro Loco associations (Unpli FVG) and enjoys the support of the Municipality of Savogna d'Isonzo.
