Sarzana returns to 1487
Sarzana Senza Tempo is the grand historical reenactment that every autumn brings Sarzana (Province of La Spezia) back to the era of the War of Serrezzana of 1487, the conflict that pitted the Republic of Genoa against Medici Florence for control of the city and its strategic territory, on the border between Liguria and Tuscany.
Encampments, battles, and shows
The Firmafede Fortress and the streets of the historic center are transformed into a large historical set, with military camps, medieval markets, ladies, and men-at-arms. The program is full of shows: falconry, performances by flag wavers, duels, historical dances, parades, and especially the great battles, daytime and nighttime, with the famous burning of the Citadel.
An authentic Ligurian event
Recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events funded by the Region, the event combines historical accuracy and spectacularity, involving reenactment groups, artists, and extras. It is an opportunity to experience the history of Sarzana and to discover the Firmafede Fortress, a masterpiece of Renaissance military architecture, in a highly charming setting.
Sarzana Senza Tempo — edition 2026
The XVI edition of Sarzana Senza Tempo is scheduled for autumn 2026, confirmed as one of the Authentic Ligurian Events funded by the Region. Following the established structure of the event, the Firmafede Fortress and the historic center will host the reenactment of the War of Serrezzana of 1487, with encampments, medieval markets, falconry shows, flag wavers, duels, and spectacular battles with the burning of the Citadel. The official date will be announced by the Municipality.
Programme Sarzana Senza Tempo 2026
The detailed 2026 program will be published by the Municipality closer to the event. Traditional structure of the reenactment (based on previous editions):
- Saturday — Opening of the encampments and medieval markets; daytime battle in the late afternoon; in the evening, nighttime battle with burning of the Citadel and concert
- Sunday — Falconry shows, historical talks, parades, and flag wavers; final battle in the afternoon

How to get there
By train: Sarzana station on the Genoa–La Spezia–Pisa line. By car: A12 or A15, Sarzana exit. The reenactment takes place at the Firmafede Fortress and in the historic center.
