The historical re-enactment of the Saracen pirates' assault on the Bellaria Canal Port
The Saracen Landing is one of the most beloved historical re-enactments on the Riviera di Rimini and one of the summer events that best tells the maritime identity of Bellaria-Igea Marina, in the province of Rimini (Emilia-Romagna). Every year, the Canal Port and the historic village transform into an open-air set where the most dramatic pages of local history are relived.
The event has its roots in the 16th century, when Saracen pirate raids were frequent and feared along the entire Adriatic coast. Coastal communities, including Bellaria, had to organize themselves to defend against sudden attacks from the sea. The re-enactment stages precisely that moment: the arrival of enemy ships, the landing of the raiders, and the village's reaction. It's an engaging way to tell visitors and younger generations an authentic chapter of the history of coastal Romagna.
The heart of the event is the actual landing on the Canal Port: hundreds of re-enactors in period costume arrive aboard historic boats and storm the shore, in a crescendo of lights, fires, and sounds. After landing, the procession of Saracens and defenders parades along the Lungomare Colombo and Viale dei Platani, reaching the town center.
The evening continues with the Saracen Feast in Piazza Don Minzoni, where the public enjoys performances by acrobats, armed company battles, and evocative belly dances. The atmosphere is that of an ancient encampment, with music, torches, and themed markets. The event is organized by the Comitato Borgata Vecchia, a historic volunteer association that has been curating the event for over twenty years as part of the Municipality's summer program.
In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled: it is always advisable to check for confirmation on official channels in the preceding days.
The 2026 edition of the Saracen Landing will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Bellaria-Igea Marina. The event is organized by the Comitato Borgata Vecchia.
In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled.
