The Italian food and craft festival in Piazza Dante, Naples
Every spring, Piazza Dante, one of the most scenic spots in the historic center of Naples, fills with wooden stalls, enticing aromas, and lively chatter: it is Saporitissimo, the festival dedicated to quality Italian food and artistic craftsmanship. The free-admission event takes over the semi-circular square between late April and early May, catching the long weekends of April 25th and May 1st, when the capital of Campania is at its busiest with Italian and international visitors.
The common thread is a journey through the flavors of the peninsula. Alongside Campanian producers from every province in the region, you will find exhibitors from Veneto, Abruzzo, Umbria, Sicily, and Puglia: a deliberately popular and accessible showcase, designed more for tasting in the square than for formal dining.
The stalls remain open continuously throughout the day, so those strolling through the center can stop by at any time without having to follow rigid schedules.
A section of the square is reserved for craftsmanship: ceramics, jewelry, and artistic creations that tell the story of the trades from the represented regions. This section is curated in collaboration with Casartigiani Napoli, which also brings demonstration workshops to the square, such as the one dedicated to making the majolica-style Neapolitan horn, one of the most recognizable symbols of Neapolitan popular culture.
The calendar is not limited to sales. Each edition features cooking shows with chefs and master pastry makers from the Vesuvius and Naples area, workshops open to the public, entertainment for children and families—juggling, fire shows, and animation—and the provincial selections for Miss Italia, now a permanent fixture of the event. In recent editions, some evenings have been hosted by well-known local television personalities.
Saporitissimo is conceived and organized by the D2 Eventi association in collaboration with Casartigiani, with the patronage of the Municipality of Naples—Department of Tourism and Productive Activities—and the II Municipality, which includes the Avvocata district where Piazza Dante is located. Recent editions have also received support from the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy. The third edition, in 2025, took place from April 23rd to 27th; in 2026, the event expanded to ten days.
The choice of the square is no coincidence: designed in the 18th century by Luigi Vanvitelli, with its semi-circle and the Port'Alba gate behind it, it is one of the most vibrant pedestrian hubs in the metropolitan city of Naples, just a few steps from Via Toledo, the National Archaeological Museum, and the decumani. During Saporitissimo, the square becomes an open-air market constantly crossed by residents, students, and tourists, and the event thus also functions as a commercial showcase for the neighborhood.
It is an event without gourmet pretensions but with a precise identity: authentic local products, fair-like prices, crafts that you can see being made, and an urban setting that alone justifies the walk. For those visiting Naples during the spring holidays, it is one of the easiest ways to sample both Campania and much of Southern Italy in a single stop.
From April 24 to May 3, 2026, Saporitissimo returned to Piazza Dante in Naples with its longest format to date: ten consecutive days of stalls open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with free admission. The placement in the calendar put the event at the center of the two spring long weekends, those of April 25 and May 1, when the historic center is particularly busy.
The culinary journey brought together Campanian exhibitors and producers from Veneto, Abruzzo, Umbria, Sicily, and Puglia: Sicilian cannoli and arancini, Abruzzese arrosticini, cured meats and cheeses, truffles, Campanian buffalo mozzarella, taralli and focaccias, selected wines, and typical Cilento spirits. Alongside the food, the area dedicated to crafts featured ceramics, jewelry, and artistic works curated in collaboration with Casartigiani.
The edition was organized by the D2 Eventi association in collaboration with Casartigiani Napoli, with the patronage of the Municipality of Naples and the Department of Tourism and Productive Activities, as well as the support of the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.
