11.4 km road race through the hills of the Monti Dauni
The Sant'Alberto Race is a premier running event that draws hundreds of athletes from across Puglia and neighboring regions to Pietramontecorvino every late May. The village, one of Italy's most beautiful, is nestled in the Monti Dauni mountains in the Province of Foggia, providing a stunning backdrop for a race that weaves together sport, landscape, and local devotion. The event is dedicated to Sant'Alberto, the town's patron saint, and serves as the grand finale of the Identity Week, a series of cultural and community events hosted by the municipality.
The 11.4-kilometer course starts and finishes in Piazza Martiri del Terrorismo. It winds through the scenic country roads surrounding the village: from the initial slopes toward Lucera, runners traverse agricultural districts, historic sheep tracks, and the golden wheat fields of the Capitanata, set against a captivating landscape. It is a challenging yet accessible race, open to both competitive and non-competitive runners.
Organized by the AVIS Comunale di Pietramontecorvino "Giovani da Montecorvino" in collaboration with the "I Saraceni" group from Lucera, the Sant'Alberto Race carries a powerful message of solidarity rooted in the culture of blood donation. Before the start, a blessing of the participants takes place, highlighting the deep bond between the race and the patronal feast. The event is supported by the Municipality of Pietramontecorvino, the CONI Provincial Delegation of Foggia, the Sports Department of the Puglia Region, and FIDAL, the Italian Athletics Federation.
The race is designed as a village celebration: upon returning to the square, participants enjoy an awards ceremony and a rich final refreshment area managed by volunteers in partnership with Coldiretti – Campagna Amica, featuring typical local products from the Daunia area. All participants receive a race pack and a finisher's medal, while the first to register are awarded an official technical jersey. It is a wonderful way to showcase Pietramontecorvino, its landscapes, and its community through outdoor sports.
The 2026 edition, the eleventh of the event, confirmed the Sant'Alberto Race as one of the most cherished running appointments in the Monti Dauni. On Sunday, May 31, 2026, over 200 runners from Puglia, Molise, and neighboring regions tackled the 11.4 km track through the wheat fields and districts of Pietramontecorvino, in the Province of Foggia. The race sealed the Identity Week, the municipality's cultural event calendar which began on May 7th with the MOSACTA exhibition.
At the start in Piazza Martiri del Terrorismo, competitive athletes and amateur runners stood side by side, united by the spirit of solidarity promoted by the organizing AVIS. Upon returning to the square, the event concluded with an awards ceremony and final refreshments provided by Coldiretti – Campagna Amica.
From Piazza Martiri del Terrorismo, the track continues along Via Lucera and the SP5 towards Lucera, passes the municipal cemetery, crosses the Torretta locality, agricultural estates, and the Vado Bianco sheep track towards Masseria De Biase, reaches Contrada Parco Vecchio, and returns to the village via Via della Pace, Via dei Ciclamini, and Via Triolo, until the finish in the square.
