The historic patronal and agricultural fair of Como, under the walls of Porta Torre
The Sant'Abbondio Fair is the patronal feast of Como, dedicated to Saint Abundius, celebrated on August 31st. It is an event with centuries-old roots, deeply linked to the city's identity: every late summer, the Como community gathers around the Basilica of Sant'Abbondio and along the ancient walls to renew a tradition that unites generations.
The most traditional heart of the event is the livestock exhibition, held along Viale Cattaneo: horses, donkeys, alpacas, and other animals return to the city for an exhibition that recalls Como's ancient connection with the countryside and animal husbandry. Alongside, the agricultural market and peasant street food under the walls of Porta Torre offer typical products, traditional "land and lake" dishes, and craft beers.
The fair complements the agricultural aspect with a rich entertainment program: the flag-wavers of the Palio del Baradello, historical performances, music, workshops, games, and areas dedicated to children. It is a celebration for all ages, transforming the neighborhood around the Basilica into a large space for social interaction.
Included in the event calendar of the Municipality of Como, the capital of the homonymous Province in Lombardy, the Sant'Abbondio Fair is one of the most cherished moments of the city's summer, capable of combining the religious dimension of the patronal feast with the vitality of a large popular fair.
The 2026 edition of the Sant'Abbondio Fair is expected in late August, around the date of the patronal feast on August 31st. The event renews its traditional structure: livestock exhibition on Viale Cattaneo, agricultural market and peasant street food under the walls of Porta Torre, a dining area near the Basilica with typical land and lake dishes, performances by the flag-wavers of the Palio del Baradello, and activities for children and families.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including dates and times, will be published by the Municipality of Como in the weeks preceding the patronal feast. The usual structure of the fair includes:
