The white night of music in the Rione Sanità district of Naples
Sanità-Tà-Tà is the neighborhood festival that, in the first days of January, restores the Rione Sanità district of Naples to its role as an urban stage. For an entire evening, from late afternoon until deep into the night, the maze of streets descending from Porta San Gennaro toward Piazza Sanità is closed to traffic and filled with music, lights, stalls, and visitors. It is a completely free event, born from the grassroots and later adopted by city institutions, which accompanies the long season of Neapolitan Christmas festivities until Epiphany.
The format is that of a widespread event: not just a single concert, but a network of stages and sound stations that light up simultaneously throughout the district. The main stage is set up in Piazza Sanità, in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità, while live music and DJ sets animate the other key points of the neighborhood:
The audience moves freely from one stage to another: it is this continuous strolling through alleys, courtyards, and stairways that gives the evening its unique character, very far from that of a traditional concert.
The artistic direction brings together dozens of performers from the local scene every year: melodic and neo-melodic singers, rappers, songwriters, street bands, DJs, and voices from the city's radio stations. In the 2026 edition, over twenty-five artists took turns on the Piazza Sanità stage, all performing for free, while the previous edition saw the extraordinary participation of Andrea Sannino. The artistic direction is entrusted to Massimiliano Jovine, a historic member of the Neapolitan music scene.
Alongside the music, Sanità-Tà-Tà is also a rare opportunity to discover the archaeological and artistic heritage of the neighborhood: on the day of the festival, the Augustan Aqueduct of Serino, the Catacombs of San Gaudioso, the Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità, the Jago Museum housed in the church of Sant'Aspreno ai Crociferi, and the SMMAVE of the Misericordiella generally remain open, usually by reservation. It is an essential part of the project: the festival was also born to show that the Sanità is, first and foremost, a treasure trove of beauty.
Throughout the evening, the historic pizzerias, pastry shops, small bars, and artisan workshops of the district remain open, joined by Neapolitan street food stalls along the pedestrian route. Fried snacks, folded pizzas (pizza a portafoglio), taralli, and holiday sweets accompany the passage from one stage to another, in an atmosphere that blends a popular festival with an urban concert.
The event is promoted and funded by the Department of Tourism and Productive Activities of the Municipality of Naples and is organized by Municipality 3 in collaboration with C'MoN produzioni, with the involvement of local associations, parishes, and neighborhood merchants. Radio Marte supports the event as a media partner. The second edition was held on January 5, 2018, and in 2026 the festival reached its eighth edition.
The Rione Sanità is one of the most identity-rich places in Campania: the neighborhood of Totò and Sergio Bruni, of early Christian catacombs and Baroque palaces, for decades told only through crime reports and today a symbol of a rebirth built on culture, tourism, and social entrepreneurship. Sanità-Tà-Tà is the moment when this transformation becomes visible to the whole city: a night when the neighborhood opens up, lights up, and invites Naples to enter.
On Saturday, January 3, 2026, the Rione Sanità district of Naples experienced its white night to start the year. From 6:30 PM, the neighborhood gradually filled with music, with the major free concert in Piazza Sanità starting at 8:30 PM and continuing until late at night.
The 2026 edition was structured as a tribute to two iconic figures of Neapolitan culture who recently passed away, the photographer Mimmo Jodice and the saxophonist James Senese. The artistic direction was curated by Massimiliano Jovine; all artists performed for free.
In addition to the main stage, the evening involved the entire district with musical stations and widespread DJ sets, street food, street performances, open shops and pizzerias, and the opportunity to visit the main cultural sites of the neighborhood by reservation. The event was promoted and funded by the Department of Tourism and Productive Activities of the Municipality of Naples and organized by Municipality 3 with C'MoN produzioni, with Radio Marte as a media partner.

The Rione Sanità can be reached on foot from the historic center of Naples: from the National Archaeological Museum, walk down Via Foria and enter through the Borgo dei Vergini in a few minutes. By subway, the most convenient stop is Museo (Line 1 and Line 2), followed by a walk of about 10 minutes. Numerous ANM bus lines serve Via Foria and Piazza Cavour.
On the evening of the event, the district area is pedestrianized and closed to traffic: arriving by car is strongly discouraged. It is better to leave the car in the city center parking lots (Piazza Cavour area, Via Foria) and continue on foot.
Concerts, DJ sets, and street entertainment are free and do not require reservations. Visits to the district's cultural sites (catacombs, aqueduct, museums) follow the rates and booking procedures of the individual operators.
