Sandokan Returns to Monza

The exhibition Sandokan – The Tiger Roars Again is hosted at the Orangerie of the Royal Palace of Monza (Province of Monza and Brianza) and offers a total immersion journey into 19th-century Southeast Asia, through the literary imagination of Emilio Salgari and his most famous hero, Sandokan, the Tiger of Malaysia.

Between Literature and History

The exhibition path combines the fantastic elements of Salgari's novels with authentic historical documents, ethnographic objects, images, and sound installations. This creates a multi-layered narrative that, on one hand, celebrates the popular success of Sandokan's stories—across novels, TV series, and films—and on the other, reconstructs the historical and cultural context of the Indo-Malayan world that inspired Salgari.

An Immersive Exhibition at the Palace

Conceived and produced by Vertigo Syndrome, with curation by Francesco Aquilanti and Loretta Paderni, the exhibition features loans from important national institutions, including the Museum of Civilizations in Rome, RAI, and the National Film Archive. The setting is the Villa Reale of Monza, one of Lombardy's most significant monumental complexes, which with this exhibition confirms its vocation for major cultural events capable of attracting a broad and diverse audience.
