About Sandigliano Carnival

The Sandigliano Carnival is the popular winter festival that brings this town in the Biella province, Piedmont, to life. Revived in grand style by the Compagnia del Paiolo - Amici del Carnevale, the event unites the community with a mask parade through the streets, the traditional Rampin and Rampina masks, and above all, the famous bean stew, with over 1,600 portions served. Featuring DJ sets, a traditional lunch, afternoon dances, and a dedicated children's carnival, it is a charitable event for all ages.

The Sandigliano Carnival

In the heart of winter, the Sandigliano Carnival transforms the streets of this small town in the Biella province, Piedmont, into a stage of color, music, and tradition. After a years-long hiatus, the festival has been reborn in grand style thanks to the efforts of the Compagnia del Paiolo - Amici del Carnevale, a volunteer association led by president Mirko Fiandesio, which has brought one of the community's most cherished traditions back to life.

The Rampin and Rampina masks

The heart and soul of the event are the traditional Rampin and Rampina masks, restored specifically to give new momentum to the Carnival. They lead the parade through the town, accompanied by masked groups, local associations, and the 'coscritti' (local youth cohorts), who bring the procession to life every year with floats, costumes, and infectious joy.

The great bean stew

The most anticipated moment is undoubtedly the fagiolata (bean stew), an authentic gastronomic institution of the Piedmontese Carnival. Volunteers fire up dozens of cauldrons—about 27, containing over 200 kilos of beans—to prepare and distribute approximately 1,600 portions of this warm, communal dish. The distribution, preceded by Holy Mass and a blessing, is the ritual that brings the whole town together at the table.

A carnival for the whole community

The program spans several days and embraces all ages: from the Carnival Party with a DJ set that kicks off the festivities, to the traditional lunch and afternoon dances, all the way to the Children's Carnival and live music evenings. The event also has a strong charitable focus: part of the proceeds is donated to charity, confirming the spirit of solidarity that drives the entire organization.

A local celebration

Organized in collaboration with the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Sandigliano, the Carnival is much more than just a party: it is an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of a community that, around steaming cauldrons and historical masks, rediscovers its roots and identity in the Biella area.
