The road race that brings San Salvo to life every June, blending athletics, remembrance, and inclusion.
The San Salvo City Road Race Trophy – Dino Potalivo Memorial is one of the most anticipated road races in the Chieti province running calendar. Every year, in early June, the town of San Salvo transforms into a grand stage for running, attracting hundreds of athletes from across Abruzzo and neighboring regions. The race is organized by A.S.D. Podistica San Salvo, an association founded in February 2002 by a small group of enthusiasts, which has since grown into a cornerstone of local athletics.
The event is named in memory of Dino Potalivo, a figure deeply connected to local sports; his legacy is intertwined with the festive atmosphere and the spirit of togetherness that defines the event. The Trophy is more than just a race: alongside the main event, there are races for young athletes and children, as well as the Corrinsieme, a non-competitive walk that welcomes families, associations, volunteers, and athletes with disabilities, sending a powerful message of inclusion.
The race winds through the streets of San Salvo and its coastline. In recent editions, the start has been moved to the San Salvo Marina promenade, in the Arena del Mare area of Piazza Cristoforo Colombo, featuring a fast and scenic route overlooking the Adriatic. The competitive race, valid for FIDAL regional circuits, is open to Junior, Promising, Senior, and Master categories for both men and women.
San Salvo is a lively town in the province of Chieti, located on the southernmost edge of the Abruzzo coast, just a stone's throw from the border with Molise. Its seaside district, San Salvo Marina, is one of the most popular summer destinations on the lower Adriatic. The Dino Potalivo Memorial is one of the city's most cherished sporting events and serves as the ideal kickoff for the season of outdoor activities along the Abruzzo coastline.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the 20th edition of the San Salvo City Road Race Trophy – Dino Potalivo Memorial attracted over 800 runners to the San Salvo Marina promenade, starting from the Arena del Mare area in Piazza Cristoforo Colombo. A record-breaking edition for the historic race organized by A.S.D. Podistica San Salvo, led by president Michele Colamarino.
Alongside the competitive race covering approximately 11 km, the event included races for young athletes and the 14th edition of the Corrinsieme, the non-competitive walk open to associations, volunteers, and athletes with disabilities.
