The end-of-summer festival of Polesine
In Castelnovo Bariano, a town in Alto Polesine in the province of Rovigo, the Fiera di San Rocco – affectionately called "Fera ad Castelnov" in the local dialect – is the most anticipated event of the year. It takes place between late August and early September and transforms the town center into a large popular festival that attracts visitors from all over Polesine and neighboring provinces.
Gastronomy, music, and tradition
The heart of the fair is the food stand, open every evening, which offers traditional Polesine dishes – from spaghetti with clams to mixed fried fish, from cod to pasta with rabbit sauce – alongside sandwiches, piadine, arrosticini, and Ascolana olives. Every evening is enlivened by live music, with orchestras and bands alternating on stage, while the funfair entertains the little ones.
Engines, games, and fireworks
Among the most characteristic attractions are the exhibitions and rallies of vintage cars and Vespas, martial arts demonstrations, a fishing competition for children, and a photographic exhibition. The grand finale is the fireworks display that lights up the Alto Polesine sky. Organized by the Pro Loco Castelnovo Bariano APS, the Fera ad Castelnov is an example of the vitality of village fairs in rural Veneto.
San Rocco Fair — edition 2026
The 157th San Rocco Fair 2026 returns to Castelnovo Bariano between late August and early September, around the feast of San Rocco (August 16th), following the 156th edition held from August 29 to September 2, 2025. The "Fera ad Castelnov" formula is confirmed: food stand every evening with Polesine specialties, live music, funfair, vintage car and Vespa rallies, children's fishing competition, photographic exhibition, and the usual spectacular final fireworks display. The detailed program will be published by Pro Loco Castelnovo Bariano.

The detailed program for the 157th edition in 2026 will be published by Pro Loco Castelnovo Bariano APS in the weeks preceding the fair. Usual structure of the event (several evenings between late August and early September):
- Food stand open every evening from 7:30 PM with Polesine specialties (spaghetti with clams, mixed fried fish, cod, pasta with rabbit sauce) and sandwiches, piadine, arrosticini
- Live music every evening with orchestras and bands
- Funfair
- Rallies and exhibitions of vintage cars and Vespas
- Children's fishing competition, martial arts demonstrations, photographic exhibition, tombola
- Spectacular final fireworks display

How to get there
Castelnovo Bariano is located in Alto Polesine, in the province of Rovigo, along the Po river on the border with Lombardy and Emilia. By car, from the SS482 or the A22/A13. The nearest train stations are Ostiglia and Sermide.
