Celebrating Campania's 'Red Gold' in Acerra
Every year, as the harvest begins in the Agro Acerrano, Acerra (Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania) transforms into the capital of a product that defines Italian identity: the San Marzano tomato, the 'Red Gold' of the Mediterranean diet. San Marzano Land is the event that officially kicks off the season, bringing farmers, scientists, journalists, chefs, and pizza masters together at the same table for a single, immersive day.
The concept behind the festival, promoted by the Gruppo Nolano, is to bridge four worlds that rarely meet: agriculture, culture, sustainability, and haute cuisine. The experience begins in the fields, where visitors observe the cultivation and harvesting techniques of the San Marzano, before moving to the Tenuta Luis estate for talks, guided tastings, and an evening show cooking event.
The cultural heart of the day is the San Marzano Talks: high-profile discussions featuring figures from institutional, scientific, and gastronomic backgrounds. Topics include biodiversity, protecting the product against imitations and 'Italian Sounding' labels, and the agricultural revitalization of the Agro Acerrano region, which has seen a remarkable rebirth after difficult years.
The evening heats up with a show cooking event dedicated to pizza. As the ovens fire up, pizza masters—many of whom are featured in the world's 'The Best Pizza Awards' rankings—interpret the San Marzano tomato in a contemporary style. This is the most spectacular and popular part of the day, where the 'Red Gold' transitions from an agricultural product to a culinary masterpiece.
Supported by the Municipality of Acerra, San Marzano Land has quickly become a landmark event for lovers of fine Campanian cuisine who want to discover the story behind every jar of San Marzano tomatoes.
The 2nd edition of San Marzano Land was held in Acerra (NA) on July 20, 2026, confirming the successful formula that intertwines land, debate, and gastronomy. The event, supported by the Municipality of Acerra, gave a voice to all players in the supply chain: from the farmers who safeguard biodiversity to the chefs who transform the raw ingredients.
The day began in the afternoon with a visit to the fields of the Agro Acerrano, followed by a move to the Tenuta Luis estate for scientific talks, tastings, and, in the evening, the grand show cooking event dedicated to pizza and the best uses of the San Marzano tomato.
The event takes place across the Gruppo Nolano fields in the Agro Acerrano and at the Tenuta Luis estate in Acerra (NA), Campania.
By car: Acerra is accessible via the Asse Mediano and the A16/A1 motorways (exit toward the Nolano-Acerrano area), approximately 20 km from Naples. By train: the Acerra station is served by regional lines; it is also reachable by bus from Naples.
The event is held on a single day in July, coinciding with the start of the San Marzano tomato harvest.
The evening session, featuring show cooking and tastings, is the most popular part of the event. It is advisable to check with the organizers in advance regarding access and booking procedures, as these are not always publicly advertised.
