A week of pizza, music, and dancing in the Cortona hamlet of San Lorenzo
In San Lorenzo, a small hamlet in the municipality of Cortona, in the province of Arezzo, summer reaches its peak with the Pizza Festival. For an entire week around the Ferragosto holiday, the village comes alive, becoming a meeting point for locals, vacationers, and tourists traveling through the Tuscan Valdichiana. It is one of those genuine, popular festivals that capture the most authentic soul of Tuscany, made of good food, music, and the joy of being together under the stars.
As the name suggests, pizza is the undisputed queen of the event: hot, fragrant, and baked in countless varieties, it wins over the palates of both adults and children. Alongside the pizza, the food stalls offer delicious local specialties, reflecting the rich culinary tradition of Cortona and the Valdichiana. All this at affordable prices, in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere that is the true secret to the success of this summer festival.
The Pizza Festival is not just about food. Every evening, the event area transforms into a large dance floor: guests dance to the live music of the best ballroom orchestras, a deeply felt tradition in Tuscan village festivals. There is also an internal raffle, with exciting prizes up for grabs that add a touch of suspense to the evenings.
The festival is also the ideal opportunity to discover Cortona, one of the most fascinating art cities in Tuscany, perched on a hill overlooking the Valdichiana and Lake Trasimeno. Between medieval alleys, museums, and breathtaking views, the Cortona area preserves a historical and landscape heritage of great value. Its hamlets, such as San Lorenzo, keep the convivial spirit of rural communities intact, of which summer festivals are the most authentic expression.
With its simple and welcoming character, the Pizza Festival appeals to everyone: families with children, young people, seniors, and passing visitors. It is the perfect occasion to savor Tuscan cuisine at accessible prices, dance in the open air, and breathe in the authentic atmosphere of a village celebrating in the heart of the Arezzo summer.
