Three evenings of Campanian flavors and folk music under the shooting stars
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year, around August 10th, Bellizzi dedicates several evenings to the San Lorenzo Festival: a street party built around good food, music, and the joy of being outdoors. The date is no coincidence: the nights of San Lorenzo have always been associated with shooting stars, and across Italy, they become an excuse for long dinners, late-night chats, and eyes turned toward the sky. In Bellizzi, this tradition translates into a popular event that is free to attend and deeply rooted in the town's identity.
The municipality of Bellizzi, in the province of Salerno, is one of the youngest in Campania: it gained autonomy on February 1, 1990, after separating from Montecorvino Rovella. Nestled about sixty meters above sea level in the fertile Piana del Sele, it now has over thirteen thousand inhabitants and has grown thanks to agriculture, buffalo farming, and small-scale industry. It is no surprise that this is one of the birthplaces of buffalo mozzarella from Campania, a product that defines the gastronomic identity of the territory better than any guidebook.
The heart of the festival lies in the food stalls, which in recent editions have opened every evening around 7:00 PM. The menu features classic home-style cooking, prepared on-site:
The format is the classic Italian festival style: you order at the counter, find a seat at the outdoor tables, and eat at your leisure while the entertainment continues on stage. It is a simple and affordable way to discover local cuisine without any tourist filters.
Alongside the food, the festival offers live music with folk groups and DJ sets, folk dance performances, and entertainment. The tarantella and traditional southern rhythms remain the most recognizable soundtrack of these evenings, capable of getting all generations out into the square. The side areas host craft markets with local products and small handmade creations, along with relaxation zones with outdoor tables to pause between courses.
The San Lorenzo Festival is designed as a community celebration: entertainment for children, outdoor spaces, and evening hours make it suitable for those arriving with kids. In past editions, the organizers provided free parking areas and dedicated signage to facilitate access to the event, a detail that simplifies life for those arriving from neighboring towns.
Bellizzi is located just a few kilometers from Salerno, Battipaglia, Eboli, and Pontecagnano, in an area that hosts a true calendar of patronal feasts and village festivals throughout August. Those choosing this part of Campania for their holidays can easily combine an evening in Bellizzi with a day at the beach on the Salerno coast, a visit to the Paestum archaeological site, or a trip to the Amalfi Coast. In this sense, the festival is the most authentic way to end a day of travel: no choreography built for tourism, just the party the town organizes for itself.
As of the writing of this guide, no official dates have been released for the 2026 edition of the San Lorenzo Festival in Bellizzi. The event has traditionally taken place in August, linked to the feast of San Lorenzo on August 10th; therefore, it is recommended to check the announcements from the Municipality of Bellizzi and the organizing associations before traveling.
At the time of writing, there are no official communications regarding the dates for the 2026 edition of the San Lorenzo Festival in Bellizzi, in the province of Salerno. The festival is traditionally linked to the feast of San Lorenzo, which falls on August 10th, and in previous editions, it has taken place in the days immediately surrounding that date.
Those wishing to attend will therefore need to wait for the announcement of the program by the organizers. Information on the evenings, food stalls, and musical performances is generally released close to the event through the channels of the Municipality of Bellizzi and local associations. This page will be updated as soon as verified dates and programs are available.
By car: Bellizzi is served by the Strada Statale 18 Tirrena Inferiore and can be reached from the A2 del Mediterraneo motorway, taking the Pontecagnano exit, in just a few minutes. From Salerno, the journey is about 15 km.
By train: The Montecorvino-Bellizzi station is located on the southern Tyrrhenian railway line, with regional connections from Salerno and Battipaglia.
By plane: The Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi airport, in Pontecagnano, is just a few kilometers away.
In recent editions, food stalls have opened every evening from 7:00 PM. Admission to the festival area is free; you only pay for what you consume at the stalls. During the event, free parking areas and dedicated signage have been provided.
Arrive early to avoid queues at the counters on the busiest nights. Bring cash: not all festival stalls accept electronic payments. August evenings in the Piana del Sele are hot and humid, but a light sweater might be useful for the end of the night. For those wishing to stay overnight, the widest range of accommodation is found in Salerno, Battipaglia, and on the coast of Pontecagnano.
Dates can vary from year to year: it is always best to check the updated program on the official channels of the Municipality of Bellizzi and the organizers.
