The community festival of the Villa Camera hamlet in Campli, Teramo province
At the foot of the Monti della Laga, in the heart of the Teramo region, the Villa Camera hamlet in the Municipality of Campli celebrates the San Liberatore Festival every year in early August. It is the most anticipated event of the year for this small rural community of just over a hundred inhabitants: for a few days, the village comes alive with people, lights, and music, renewing a devotion rooted in centuries of tradition.
The liturgical feast of San Liberatore falls on August 6th and centers around the Church of San Liberatore, built in the 1930s within the hamlet. The building, with its characteristic travertine exterior, houses a precious terracotta statue of San Liberatore dating back to 1572, a testament to a devotion much older than the church itself. Villa Camera, an ancient settlement of likely Lombard origins, was once a parish under the patronage of the Mancini family: a piece of history that survives through the celebration of its patron saint.
The festivities combine religious and secular dimensions. The spiritual heart consists of Eucharistic celebrations and the procession of the saint's statue through the streets of the hamlet, accompanied by the faithful and a marching band. Surrounding this is the popular side of the festival: open-air evenings, live music, performances, stalls featuring local gastronomic specialties, and moments of conviviality that bring together residents, returning emigrants, and visitors. The event is part of the rich summer calendar of the Municipality of Campli, which promotes its hamlets every year with events spread between June and September.
Experiencing the San Liberatore festival means discovering an authentic Abruzzo, the one found in the small hillside hamlets of the province of Teramo. Just a few kilometers away lies the historic Farnese center of Campli, one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in Italy," famous for its Holy Stairs (Scala Santa), the Cathedral of Santa Maria in Platea, and its traditional porchetta. The Villa Camera festival is the perfect opportunity to combine the discovery of this heritage with the hospitality and traditions of a community that proudly guards its identity.
The San Liberatore Festival returns to the Villa Camera hamlet of Campli, in the province of Teramo, on August 5th and 6th, 2026, as confirmed by the Municipality's Campli Summer 2026 calendar. These two days will renew the community's tradition with religious celebrations, the procession of the saint's statue, and popular festivities in the village. The detailed program, including times, music, and events, will be announced by the Associazione Beneficio San Liberatore ETS and the festival committee via the official flyer and the visitcampli.it portal.
