Evenings of music and dance at the foot of Castello Theodoli, in the heart of the Aniene Valley
"Sambuci Music and Dance" is a live performance festival promoted by the Municipality of Sambuci, a small village in the metropolitan city of Rome, nestled in the Aniene Valley in the Lazio region. Between late June and July, Piazza di Corte—the scenic square at the foot of Castello Theodoli—becomes an open-air stage hosting bands, dance companies, and musical ensembles. The initiative aims to enhance the historical and cultural heritage of the area through music and live entertainment.
The 2026 edition features four events, all starting at 9:00 PM with free admission until capacity is reached:
The identity heart of the town and the setting for the festival is Castello Theodoli (also known as Castello Astalli-Theodoli), an imposing historic residence that dominates the village with its Italian-style garden. Hosting guided tours, re-enactments, and cultural initiatives throughout the year, the castle is the symbol of Sambuci and the natural meeting point for the community: attending a concert or dance performance in the square below on a summer evening is an experience that combines music and heritage in a simple, authentic way.
Sambuci has only a few hundred inhabitants and is one of those small Lazio towns where summer festivals and events still define local life. The festival is also an excellent opportunity to explore the Aniene Valley: just a few kilometers away, you can find Tivoli with its UNESCO World Heritage villas, the villages of Ciciliano and Vicovaro, and the landscapes of the Prenestini and Ruffi Mountains. A weekend of evening shows, walks through the village, and local cuisine is the best way to experience the event.
The festival is organized directly by the administrative department of the Municipality of Sambuci, which manages the calendar and communication through the official website. The choice of free admission and the variety of the program—bands, dance, singer-songwriter music—reflect the desire to offer accessible culture to residents and visitors alike, while simultaneously enhancing the historic center and Castello Theodoli.
The 2026 program of the festival promoted by the Municipality of Sambuci opens on Sunday, June 28 with the Band Rally, bringing together musical groups from four local communities. On Saturday, July 4, the square transforms into an open-air milonga with El Tango Show, a dance performance dedicated to Argentine tango. Saturday, July 11 features "When music follows the villages" with Sketchy Trame Acustiche, reinterpreting great radio hits in an acoustic style. The grand finale takes place on Saturday, July 25 with the Battisti Candle Experience Tour 2026: the songs of Lucio Battisti performed by candlelight by an ensemble of strings, piano, and acoustic guitar. All shows begin at 9:00 PM in Piazza di Corte, with free admission until capacity is reached.
