The Salento Music Festival in San Donato di Lecce

The Salento Music Festival is a musical and cultural event held every year in late August in San Donato di Lecce, a small town in the province of Lecce in the heart of Salento. The event is organized by the Municipality of San Donato di Lecce, with the patronage of the Province of Lecce and the support of the Puglia Region. It is hosted at the Parco dello Sport, della Musica e della Cultura on Via Galugnano, a reclaimed space specifically designed to host large-scale events.

A festival dedicated to the identity of Salento

Since its first edition in 2022, the festival has chosen the historical and cultural identity of the territory as its central theme. The municipal administration's goal is to create a fixed seasonal event not only for the local community but for all of Salento and Puglia: a tourist, musical, and cultural attraction capable of showcasing local resources. Over the years, the stage has featured protagonists of the Salento scene such as Sud Sound System, a benchmark for reggae and Southern folk music, and Antonio Castrignanò with his Taranta Sounds, one of the greatest interpreters of contemporary pizzica.

Music, art, and gastronomy

The Salento Music Festival is more than just concerts. Each edition complements the musical program with a rich food and wine area, featuring stalls from local merchants, food trucks, Salento culinary specialties, cocktails, and craft beers. There are also sections dedicated to visual arts, with painting and sculpture exhibitions, as well as family-friendly spaces. Admission is free, as is parking, which has made the event a draw for thousands of visitors over the two nights.

A late-summer event in Salento

Taking place in the final days of August, the festival represents one of the last major events of the Salento summer, when the inland villages of Lecce come alive with residents and tourists. San Donato di Lecce, along with its hamlet of Galugnano, transforms for a weekend into a meeting point for live music, folk traditions, and conviviality, confirming Puglia's vocation for community-focused, widespread events.
