The festival of the village of Testa di Lepre in honor of its patron saint
Testa di Lepre is a small hamlet in the Municipality of Fiumicino, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in Lazio. Far from the coast and the airport that have made the municipal territory famous, this agricultural village retains a rural character that is fully expressed during the Saint Peter the Apostle Patronal Feast, the most anticipated event of the year for the village's inhabitants.
The festival is dedicated to the saint after whom the local parish is named, the church of San Pietro Apostolo, which reopened in the spring of 2026 following a major restoration project inaugurated by Bishop Gianrico Ruzza. The calendar follows the liturgical feast of Saints Peter and Paul on June 29th, although over the years the event has sometimes been moved to the first days of July for organizational reasons.
The organization is entrusted to the Pro Loco Testa di Lepre APS, which operates under the patronage of the Fiumicino municipal administration and in close coordination with the parish. The same association enlivens the village with other initiatives throughout the year, including the "PromuoviAmo il territorio" Agricultural Festival, which was launched in 2026 and is dedicated to the area's farming roots.
The festival format follows the classic style of patronal feasts in Lazio, with a strong sense of community:
What makes this festival special is not its sizeโit remains a village event without big-name headlinersโbut the quality of the bond it manages to recreate. The evenings take place outdoors in the village's equipped area and see three generations participating together: those who worked the land, those who stayed, and those who return from Rome or Fiumicino just for these nights. The "Roman Countryside" award, presented during the festival, perfectly captures this vocation: recognizing the value of those who keep the territory's agricultural identity alive.
In 2026, the festival took place from June 25th to 29th, with shows every evening. In 2025, it was held from July 4th to 6th. It is worth checking the dates on the Pro Loco channels before traveling, as the calendar placement can shift by a few days from year to year. Evening activities usually begin around 7:00 PM with the opening of the food stalls and continue until late with music.
From June 25th to 29th, 2026, the village of Testa di Lepre, a hamlet of the Municipality of Fiumicino, celebrated its patron saint Saint Peter the Apostle. The announced program featured shows every evening, following the established formula that combines live music, food stalls, and moments of devotion around the parish.
The edition took place immediately after the first "PromuoviAmo il territorio" Agricultural Festival, which was held from June 19th to 21st, also organized by the Pro Loco Testa di Lepre APS: two closely spaced events that made the village one of the most active hubs of the Fiumicino summer.
A special added value for 2026: the church of San Pietro Apostolo returned to full use after restoration work, inaugurated in April 2026 by the diocesan bishop Gianrico Ruzza. The patronal feast thus represented the first major community occasion in the renovated church.
The complete details of the evenings were not released on public channels beyond the announcement of the dates and the "shows every evening" formula.
Testa di Lepre is located in the inland area of the Municipality of Fiumicino, about 20 km from the center of Fiumicino and about thirty kilometers from Rome. By car, it can be reached via the Via Aurelia or Via Portuense, following the signs for Testa di Lepre di Sopra. There is no direct rail connection: the nearest useful station is Maccarese-Fregene, from where you can continue by car or local Cotral bus services.
On festival evenings, parking is available in dirt areas and along the village streets. It is advisable to arrive early and pay attention to any temporary traffic changes ordered by the Municipality.
Access to the festival is free. Food and drinks at the stalls and kiosks are available for purchase at affordable, popular prices.
The festival is suitable for families with children. Summer evenings in the Roman countryside can be humid: a light sweater is useful. For the updated program, it is best to follow the Pro Loco Testa di Lepre APS Facebook page.
