About Patronal Feast

Every year, the agricultural village of Testa di Lepre, a hamlet of the Municipality of Fiumicino, gathers around the church of San Pietro Apostolo for the patronal feast. Five evenings of entertainment, live music, food stalls, and religious observances organized by the local Pro Loco with the support of the municipal administration: it is one of the most cherished traditions of the Roman countryside north of Fiumicino, where the community comes together through food, local memory, and devotion.

A village festival in the Roman countryside

Testa di Lepre is a small hamlet in the Municipality of Fiumicino, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in Lazio. Far from the coast and the airport that have made the municipal territory famous, this agricultural village retains a rural character that is fully expressed during the Saint Peter the Apostle Patronal Feast, the most anticipated event of the year for the village's inhabitants.

The festival is dedicated to the saint after whom the local parish is named, the church of San Pietro Apostolo, which reopened in the spring of 2026 following a major restoration project inaugurated by Bishop Gianrico Ruzza. The calendar follows the liturgical feast of Saints Peter and Paul on June 29th, although over the years the event has sometimes been moved to the first days of July for organizational reasons.

Organizers

The organization is entrusted to the Pro Loco Testa di Lepre APS, which operates under the patronage of the Fiumicino municipal administration and in close coordination with the parish. The same association enlivens the village with other initiatives throughout the year, including the "PromuoviAmo il territorio" Agricultural Festival, which was launched in 2026 and is dedicated to the area's farming roots.

What to expect

The festival format follows the classic style of patronal feasts in Lazio, with a strong sense of community:

  • Food stalls open every evening, featuring Roman cuisine and traditional farming dishes
  • Live musical performances: dance orchestras, bands covering hits from the sixties to today, ballroom dancing, and pop music
  • Religious moments: solemn mass and the procession through the village streets, attended by municipal authorities
  • Games and popular traditions, such as the election of the "Harvest Lady" or the "guess the weight of the ham" game
  • Photo exhibitions on the village's history, with vintage images and films dedicated to the community's origins
  • Theatrical performances organized by the Pro Loco and evenings designed for families and children

The soul of the village

What makes this festival special is not its sizeโ€”it remains a village event without big-name headlinersโ€”but the quality of the bond it manages to recreate. The evenings take place outdoors in the village's equipped area and see three generations participating together: those who worked the land, those who stayed, and those who return from Rome or Fiumicino just for these nights. The "Roman Countryside" award, presented during the festival, perfectly captures this vocation: recognizing the value of those who keep the territory's agricultural identity alive.

When to go

In 2026, the festival took place from June 25th to 29th, with shows every evening. In 2025, it was held from July 4th to 6th. It is worth checking the dates on the Pro Loco channels before traveling, as the calendar placement can shift by a few days from year to year. Evening activities usually begin around 7:00 PM with the opening of the food stalls and continue until late with music.

Patronal Feast โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Saint Peter the Apostle Patronal Feast took place in Testa di Lepre from June 25th to 29th, with shows every evening. Five days of celebration in the village, organized by the Pro Loco Testa di Lepre APS with the patronage of the Municipality of Fiumicino, included in the rich summer calendar of the municipal territory. The anniversary fell a few months after the reopening of the parish church, restored and inaugurated by Bishop Gianrico Ruzza.

2026 Patronal Feast in Testa di Lepre

From June 25th to 29th, 2026, the village of Testa di Lepre, a hamlet of the Municipality of Fiumicino, celebrated its patron saint Saint Peter the Apostle. The announced program featured shows every evening, following the established formula that combines live music, food stalls, and moments of devotion around the parish.

The edition took place immediately after the first "PromuoviAmo il territorio" Agricultural Festival, which was held from June 19th to 21st, also organized by the Pro Loco Testa di Lepre APS: two closely spaced events that made the village one of the most active hubs of the Fiumicino summer.

A special added value for 2026: the church of San Pietro Apostolo returned to full use after restoration work, inaugurated in April 2026 by the diocesan bishop Gianrico Ruzza. The patronal feast thus represented the first major community occasion in the renovated church.

The complete details of the evenings were not released on public channels beyond the announcement of the dates and the "shows every evening" formula.
