The patronal feast of the hamlet of Vogno, in the heart of the Reggiano Apennines
The Saint Peter Festival is the patronal feast of the hamlet of Vogno, a small village in the Municipality of Toano, in the province of Reggio Emilia and in the heart of the Reggiano Apennines. Situated at about 585 meters above sea level, a few kilometers from the municipal capital, Vogno preserves the secluded atmosphere of mountain villages, where the feast of the patron saint is still a fundamental moment of community life. Every year, around the feast of Saints Peter and Paul on June 29th, the inhabitants gather to celebrate a tradition that is renewed from generation to generation.
The festival takes its name from the Church of San Pietro of Vogno, around which the life of the village revolves. The building is already mentioned in documents from the 14th century, when it was dependent on the parish church of Toano. According to tradition, the ancient parish church was destroyed by a landslide and was later rebuilt, apparently thanks to the generosity of the Sassi di Quara comital family. At the beginning of the 18th century, the church was equipped with a bell tower with two bells, a testament to the long religious history of this Apennine community.
The Saint Peter Festival combines the religious dimension with that of a village festival. Alongside moments of devotion linked to the figure of the patron saint, the day comes alive with food stalls managed by the Pro Loco and volunteers, offering dishes and products from the Reggiano Apennine cuisine. It is an opportunity to taste mountain specialties, meet friends, and experience the frank and genuine hospitality that characterizes these villages.
For those who want to discover the territory of Toano and the Reggiano Apennines, the festival is also a precious opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Emilia-Romagna far from the major tourist routes. The woods, paths, and landscapes surrounding Vogno invite you to combine the festival with a walk or a hike in nature. The Saint Peter Festival thus represents, every year, a small but heartfelt event that keeps alive the identity of a mountain community.
The Saint Peter Festival in Vogno is confirmed for Sunday, June 28, 2026, according to the official event calendar of the Municipality of Toano. As every year, the patronal feast will bring the community of the hamlet together around the Church of San Pietro, with religious moments and the unmissable food stalls organized by the Pro Loco. The detailed program, with times and activities, is usually released by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including times, celebrations, and gastronomic offerings, will be announced by the Pro Loco of Vogno and the Municipality of Toano closer to the event. The festival will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
