Saint Peter Festival - Vogno

A patronal feast in the heart of the Reggiano Apennines

The Saint Peter Festival is the patronal feast of the hamlet of Vogno, a small village in the Municipality of Toano, in the province of Reggio Emilia and in the heart of the Reggiano Apennines. Situated at about 585 meters above sea level, a few kilometers from the municipal capital, Vogno preserves the secluded atmosphere of mountain villages, where the feast of the patron saint is still a fundamental moment of community life. Every year, around the feast of Saints Peter and Paul on June 29th, the inhabitants gather to celebrate a tradition that is renewed from generation to generation.

The Church of San Pietro, heart of the village

The festival takes its name from the Church of San Pietro of Vogno, around which the life of the village revolves. The building is already mentioned in documents from the 14th century, when it was dependent on the parish church of Toano. According to tradition, the ancient parish church was destroyed by a landslide and was later rebuilt, apparently thanks to the generosity of the Sassi di Quara comital family. At the beginning of the 18th century, the church was equipped with a bell tower with two bells, a testament to the long religious history of this Apennine community.

Tradition, devotion, and conviviality

The Saint Peter Festival combines the religious dimension with that of a village festival. Alongside moments of devotion linked to the figure of the patron saint, the day comes alive with food stalls managed by the Pro Loco and volunteers, offering dishes and products from the Reggiano Apennine cuisine.
