Four nights of jazz at the Alexanderplatz Jazz Club in Rome
The Saint Louis Club Festival is the event where the Saint Louis College of Music, the capital's historic higher education music school, gives its students the chance to perform for an audience in one of the temples of Roman jazz: the Alexanderplatz Jazz Club at Via Ostia 9, in the Prati district, just a short walk from the Ottaviano metro station (Line A). For four nights, student jazz ensembles share the stage with established musicians, in a training program that places direct stage experience at its core.
Born from the collaboration between Saint Louis and Alexanderplatz, the festival is designed as a true testing ground: the school's young talents don't just play in the classroom, but in front of the audience of one of the most prestigious clubs in Rome, Lazio, accompanied night after night by special guests who join the ensembles. The repertoire ranges from great jazz classics to more contemporary fusions, with ample space for improvisation and Latin sounds.
The edition features nine guests from the Italian and international jazz scene who will rotate over the four nights alongside the ensembles: Federica Michisanti, Matteo Carlini, Andrea Colella, Nicola Di Tommaso, Dario Giacovelli, Giovanni Imparato, Natalio Mangalavite, Sasha Mashin, and Cristiano Mastroianni. Each night, at least two guests will take the stage with the students, creating ever-changing formations.
The closing on April 30 coincides with International Jazz Day, the global jazz celebration promoted by UNESCO: after the scheduled concert, the evening continues with a jam session open to everyone, accompanied by a group of students and teachers from the Saint Louis jazz department. A finale that summarizes the spirit of the festival, where learning becomes sharing and the stage opens up to anyone who wants to join in.
