The patron saint's feast in the Appio Claudio district, featuring solemn liturgy, an evening procession, and a concert.
The Saint Anthony Patronal Feast is the most anticipated event of the year for the community surrounding the church at Circonvallazione Appia 150, in the southeast of the City of Rome (Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio Region). This area connects the Appio Claudio and Tuscolano districts with the route leading toward CinecittĂ : an urban fabric of 1950s and 60s buildings, historic shops, and a neighborhood life that, once a year, literally spills out into the streets.
The parish is entrusted to the Rogationist Fathers, the congregation founded by Saint Hannibal Mary Di Francia, which gives the festival a reach beyond the local area: international Rogationist seminarians regularly participate in the celebrations, a presence that highlights the community's missionary vocation.
June 13th is the liturgical memorial of Saint Anthony of Padua, one of Italy's most beloved saints, invoked for lost items and deeply rooted in popular devotion. Rome has numerous parishes dedicated to him, each celebrating the patron in its own way. Here, the feast follows the classic rhythm of Antonian devotion: the Tredicina—the thirteen Tuesdays of preparation with prayers, hymns, and the blessing and distribution of bread—prepares the faithful in the weeks leading up to the solemn day.
The highlight of the day revolves around the concelebrated Eucharist, presided over by an auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Rome and animated by the parish choir together with the religious sisters present in the parish. At the end of the mass, the community shares a heartfelt moment: the awards ceremony, recognizing the «Family of the Year» and presenting certificates to the many altar servers who served throughout the pastoral year.
In the late afternoon, the celebration moves outside: the procession in honor of the patron saint winds through the neighborhood streets, with the statue carried on shoulders, accompanied by confraternities, the faithful, and decorated balconies along the route. It is the moment when the feast truly belongs to everyone, even those who simply watch the procession pass by.
The evening concludes with a concert in the square or inside the church, traditionally featuring classical guitar repertoires and Mediterranean-inspired music. A sober and intimate finale that closes the day without fireworks, but with the same family atmosphere that characterizes the entire festival.
June is the month of patronal feasts in Rome: in addition to Saint Anthony, the city celebrates Saint John and Saints Peter and Paul. In the Appio-Tuscolano area, the Antonian celebrations involve multiple parishes, creating a network of processions and events that mark the beginning of the Roman summer. The Circonvallazione Appia feast is one of the most well-attended at the neighborhood level.
The Circonvallazione Appia community celebrated its patron saint on Sunday, June 14, 2026. The central moment was the solemn concelebrated Eucharist, presided over by the auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Rome, Monsignor Alessandro Zenobbi, with several concelebrants, the participation of international Rogationist seminarians, and the service of the parish altar servers.
The liturgical music was provided by the religious sisters present in the parish together with the parish choir. At the end of the celebration, the awards ceremony took place, recognizing the «Family of the Year» and presenting certificates to the twenty-six altar servers of the 2025/2026 pastoral year.
In the late afternoon, the procession in honor of the patron saint crossed the neighborhood streets, followed in the evening by the closing concert.
In the preceding weeks, the Tredicina took place—the thirteen Tuesdays in honor of Saint Anthony, with prayers, hymns, and the blessing of bread.
