The gastronomic festival celebrating traditional Tiburtine pasta, in honor of Santa Sinforosa
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of summer, the district of Tivoli Terme (also known as Bagni di Tivoli), within the municipality of Tivoli near Rome, comes alive with one of the most cherished festivals in the region: the Sagra delli Ghiozzi. For three nights in July, Piazza Bartolomeo della Queva transforms into a vibrant hub where gastronomy, music, and local tradition intertwine to celebrate the identity of the Lazio region.
The undisputed stars of the event are the ghiozzi, a rustic, thick pasta typical of Tivoli Terme, handcrafted to perfectly hold any sauce. During the festival, they are served in their most beloved version, tossed in a flavorful arrabbiata sauce. Alongside this signature dish, food stands offer sausage sandwiches, arrosticini, French fries, wine, and draft beerโauthentic cuisine that captures the conviviality of Lazio's villages.
Every evening, after the food stands open, the stage lights up with live music for all generations. Past editions have featured dance orchestras, tribute bands, cabaret shows, and entertainment that attracts families and visitors from across the Rome metropolitan area. There is no shortage of street dancing, games, rides for children, street performers, and market stalls. The festival traditionally concludes with a raffle drawing and a spectacular fireworks display.
The Sagra delli Ghiozzi is deeply connected to the Feast of Santa Sinforosa, a figure of great devotion for the Tiburtine territory. The gastronomic and festive aspects are thus complemented by a religious and communal dimension, making the event a cornerstone of identity for the residents of Tivoli Terme and a gathering point for the entire community.
The event is organized by the Associazione Culturale La Fenice, which coordinates the setup of the stands, the entertainment program, and the numerous side activities every year. Admission is free: you only pay for what you consume at the food stands. With its simple and authentic atmosphere, the Sagra delli Ghiozzi is a fantastic way to discover the flavors and traditions of Tivoli and the Lazio region, just a few kilometers from Rome.
The Sagra delli Ghiozzi is expected to return in 2026 to Tivoli Terme, in the municipality of Tivoli (province of Rome), as is tradition in the month of July. At the moment, the official dates and the program for this edition have not yet been released by the Associazione Culturale La Fenice. The usual format includes three evenings of gastronomy and entertainment, featuring ghiozzi tossed in arrabbiata sauce.
Tivoli Terme is located along the Via Tiburtina, about 25 km from Rome. By car, it can be reached via the A24 motorway (Tivoli exit) or the SS5 Tiburtina. By train, the Bagni di Tivoli station is served by the regional Rome-Tivoli-Avezzano line (FL2), a short distance from Piazza Bartolomeo della Queva.
Admission to the festival is free. The food stands offer ghiozzi all'arrabbiata and other specialties at affordable prices. The festival area includes dining spaces, children's rides, and market stalls.
The festival traditionally takes place in July in the district of Tivoli Terme. We recommend checking the updated dates for the current edition with the Associazione Culturale La Fenice.
