Since 1874, the festival of DOC wine and allegorical floats of the Oltrepรฒ Milanese
The Sagra dell'Uva di San Colombano al Lambro dates back to 1874 and is today one of the longest-standing and most cherished wine festivals in Lombardy. It is traditionally held on the fourth Sunday of September, during the grape harvest season, and celebrates the deep bond between the village and its hill, the only elevation that breaks the plain south of Milan.
The absolute star is San Colombano DOC, the only designation of origin controlled (DOC) that originates in the province of Milan (also extending to the nearby provinces of Lodi and Pavia). During the Sagra, local wineries and producers offer tastings of red wines made from Croatina, Barbera, and Uva Rara grapes, as well as local white wines, sharing a winemaking tradition that endures on the outskirts of the metropolis.
The most anticipated moment is the historic parade of allegorical floats, which has paraded through the town center since 1957: collective works created by neighborhood groups, lively and animated, scenically reinterpreting themes related to the grape harvest, the territory, and current events. The parade is the folkloric heart of the festival and draws a large crowd along the village streets.
A packed schedule revolves around wine and floats:
Visiting the Sagra dell'Uva means discovering an unusual corner of the province of Milan: a village perched on the hills of the 'banine' area, with its Castle, historic cellars, and vineyards that shape the landscape. An authentic village festival, capable of uniting popular tradition with high-quality food and wine experiences.
For 2026, the Sagra dell'Uva di San Colombano al Lambro is scheduled for the fourth Sunday of September. The event, now in its 68th edition, reaffirms the blend of wine culture, folklore, and gastronomy that makes it one of Lombardy's most beloved harvest festivals: tastings of San Colombano DOC, parade of allegorical floats, food stalls, artisan market, exhibitions, and shows.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published closer to the festival. The traditional structure includes:
San Colombano al Lambro is located in the south of Milan, reachable by car from the Via Emilia and roads leading to Lodi and Pavia. The nearest train station is Sant'Angelo Lodigiano. During the Sagra, it is advisable to arrive early for parking, given the crowds.
Entry to the festival is free; tastings and food purchases are at a charge. The parade of allegorical floats is traditionally held on Sunday afternoon.
