A festival born from an ancient tradition

The Sagra del Cinghiale is one of the most characteristic events in Peia, a municipality in Val Gandino in the province of Bergamo. It is held every year on the third Sunday of September in the Cittadella district and celebrates the animal that has become the town's identity symbol, even appearing on the municipal coat of arms.

From the Middle Ages to the town's coat of arms

In Peia, a fortification with an attached estate existed since the Middle Ages, and wild boar hunting was a privilege reserved for the counts and bishops of Bergamo. From this historical heritage stems the deep connection between the town and the wild boar, which the festival renews each year, transforming a medieval memory into a popular and gastronomic celebration.

Two days of taste and community

The event runs from Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening: a widespread catering service throughout the town offers wild boar specialties, while local artisans, producers, and merchants present their products amidst shows and entertainment. It is an initiative that, as locals say, attracts more visitors than inhabitants, enlivening the economy and community spirit of this corner of Val Gandino.
