The oldest and most cherished festival in Revò, Val di Non
The Sagra del Carmen (or Sagra del Carmine) is the oldest, most heartfelt, and widely attended festival in Revò, now a village within the Municipality of Novella, in the heart of the Val di Non, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Dedicated to the Madonna del Monte Carmelo, it is celebrated annually around the Sunday following July 16th, transforming the village into a vibrant stage for devotion, music, and conviviality over four intense days.
The cult of the Madonna del Carmine in Revò has deep roots: a brotherhood dedicated to the Virgin was founded as early as 1651, a testament to the community's profound bond with this devotion. During the festival, the tolling of bells announces the celebration starting the previous week, and the statue of the Madonna is carried in procession from the church of Santa Maria to the Pieve di Santo Stefano.
The true heart of the festival lies with the coscritti, the village youth celebrating their nineteenth birthday. They are responsible for building the famous triumphal arch in the main square—an imposing wooden structure covered in moss and straw, serving as a tribute to the Madonna and a symbol of generational continuity. On Sunday, the coscritti carry the statue on their shoulders during the solemn procession through the village streets, accompanied by the Terza Sponda Band and the parish choir.
Beyond its religious dimension, the Sagra del Carmen is a popular celebration: dance evenings with ballroom orchestras, choral concerts, dance performances by local schools, dinners featuring traditional tortiei da patate (potato pancakes) prepared by the Rural Women, and the unmissable lottery with thousands of prizes. It is a reunion that brings many Revò emigrants back from North America every summer to rediscover their roots and community.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Revò APS with the collaboration of all local associations and the year's coscritti.
The Sagra del Carmen returns to Revò (Municipality of Novella, Val di Non) from Thursday, July 18th to Sunday, July 21st, 2026. As per tradition, the year's coscritti will raise the large wooden and moss arch dedicated to the Virgin in Piazza della Madonna Pellegrina, while the village comes alive for four days of religious celebrations and popular festivities.
The usual structure of the festival includes the opening on Thursday with the statue's procession and a choral concert, Friday and Saturday evenings dedicated to live music, dance orchestras, and traditional dinners, and Sunday as the highlight, with the solemn Mass, Vespers, and the grand procession with the Madonna carried on the shoulders of the coscritti, accompanied by the Terza Sponda Band.
The detailed 2026 program, including times, artists, and evening menus, will be published by the Pro Loco Revò APS on their official channels in the weeks preceding the event.
