About SacroInCanto

The SacroInCanto Festival accompanies Terni towards Easter with three free sacred music concerts, from the Middle Ages to the present day, hosted in the most evocative historical and spiritual sites of the city and San Gemini. Organized by the InCanto Association, it offers a listening experience that intertwines Baroque masterpieces, sacred polyphony, and medieval mystical chants, performed by specialized soloists and ensembles in the churches of San Lorenzo, San Francesco, and the Abbey of San Nicolò.

Sacred Music to Accompany Lent

The SacroInCanto Festival is a sacred music review that, every spring, accompanies the city of Terni and the nearby village of San Gemini towards Easter. Promoted by the InCanto Association, the festival offers a series of free concerts that span the history of sacred music, from the Middle Ages to contemporary composers.

Historical and Spiritual Venues

The strength of the review lies in the choice of locations: each concert takes place in a church or abbey steeped in history, where the acoustics and atmosphere enhance the spiritual value of the repertoire. The churches of San Lorenzo and San Francesco in Terni and the Abbey of San Nicolò in San Gemini thus become ideal settings for a focused and intense listening experience.

A Repertoire Spanning Centuries

From the Baroque of Handel, Bach, and Scarlatti to the 20th-century polyphony of Pärt and Petrassi, to medieval mystical chants and the Italian regional religious tradition, SacroInCanto offers the public of southern Umbria a musically rich journey, with free admission and limited seating. An event now firmly established in the cultural calendar of the province of Terni.

A journey from the Baroque to contemporary music, with a tribute to the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis's death and the conclusion, on Palm Sunday, at the Abbey of San Nicolò with medieval mystical chants by the vocal quartet Anutis.
