A celebration of rosé wine in the heart of Gioia del Colle
Rosa Castello is the new festival dedicated to rosé wine, debuting in Gioia del Colle, a town in the Murgia area of the province of Bari, Apulia. The event, scheduled for July 3rd and 4th, 2026, in Piazza dei Martiri del 1799, brings two evenings of rosé, fine flavors, and conviviality to one of the city's most vibrant squares.
Rosa Castello was born as part of Joha AeStas 2026, the extensive summer program promoted by the Municipality of Gioia del Colle in collaboration with numerous local associations. Running from June 28th to September 17th, 2026, the program features over forty events including music, culture, performances, and food and wine showcases spread across the city's squares and neighborhoods. Within this mosaic of initiatives, Rosa Castello represents the spotlight on rosé wine, a symbol of local winemaking tradition.
The Gioia del Colle territory is renowned for its winemaking heritage, recognized by the Gioia del Colle DOC designation. Alongside the better-known Primitivo, the designation includes a rosé variety with a characteristic cherry-pink hue, offering fruity aromas of cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry, complemented by floral notes and a fresh, balanced, and savory taste. It is precisely this identity that Rosa Castello aims to highlight, inviting enthusiasts and curious visitors to discover local rosés in a festive setting.
The heart of the event is Piazza dei Martiri del 1799, a central and symbolic space in Gioia del Colle, lively on summer evenings with residents and visitors alike. Its location in the town center allows guests to combine wine tasting with a stroll through the streets, among local shops, boutiques, and the convivial atmosphere typical of Apulian summer nights.
Located on the heights of the Bari Murgia, Gioia del Colle is known for its imposing Norman-Swabian Castle, linked to the figure of Frederick II, and for a gastronomy that pairs great wines with the famous local mozzarella. Events like Rosa Castello are part of a summer season aimed at showcasing local excellence and promoting wine tourism in this corner of Apulia.
As this is the inaugural edition, Rosa Castello promises to be a fresh addition to the Gioia summer calendar: an opportunity to toast to local rosé and enjoy the square in a festive mood, while waiting for further details on the wineries and features of the two evenings.
