The gastronomic festival of the Gratosoglio district
The Ronchetto Festival is the community gastronomic festival of Gratosoglio, a peripheral district in the south of Milan (Municipality 5, Province of Milan, Lombardy). It takes place around the parish of Saints Peter and Paul at the Three Ronchetti and was created with a dual objective: to bring together the various communities of the neighborhood and to raise funds for the educational and social activities of the area.
The heart of the festival is popular cuisine: the stands offer risottos, mixed and vegetarian grills with cheeses, mixed fried dishes, French fries, beer, and drinks. It is an opportunity to gather around tables with neighbors, families, and friends, in an informal and welcoming atmosphere typical of Milanese neighborhood festivals.
All proceeds from the Ronchetto Festival support the community's activities: the educational projects of the oratories, summer holidays, the scout group, and the sports activities of the neighborhood. The event is entirely run by volunteers, involved in various services, from the cash desk to the grills to welcoming visitors. It is promoted by the Pastoral Community of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which brings together the parishes in the area.
Gratosoglio is a social housing district built starting in the 1960s on the far southern outskirts of Milan, marked by the famous towers and a history of strong neighborhood ties. In an urban context often described only for its critical issues, events like the Ronchetto Festival tell another side of the neighborhood: that of an active community, capable of organizing itself and celebrating together. The festival is not just an opportunity to eat well at popular prices, but a moment when the different souls of the area—families, young people, parish groups, scouts—come together and collaborate, strengthening the fabric of relationships that is the true heritage of a peripheral neighborhood.
