In the heart of Rome's historic center, just a short walk from the Capitoline Hill and Piazza Venezia, the Rome International Art Biennale celebrates its 16th edition in 2026, titled "Futura". From September 19th to 28th, the historic Sala Margana—an elegant exhibition space overlooking the arched courtyard of the Palazzetto that once belonged to the Margani family—hosts an exhibition that for nearly thirty years has served as a meeting point for diverse artistic realities from across Italy and abroad.

A bridge between artistic languages

Promoted by CIAC, the event was born from the desire to offer the Capital a space for dialogue between painters and sculptors, emerging artists and established professionals. The "Futura" edition focuses on three fundamental values: peace, creativity, and environmental protection, inviting authors to act as messengers of universal values capable of transcending linguistic and cultural barriers. The stated goal is twofold: to offer artists an opportunity to communicate with one another and to provide the national and international public visiting Rome with a moment of spiritual enjoyment and reflection.

The sections: from art to literature

Alongside the historic section dedicated to plastic and pictorial arts, present since the exhibition's inception, the Biennale includes a section reserved for Poetry, Prose, and Performing Arts, creating an evocative interplay between image and word. This expansion reflects the multidisciplinary vocation of the event, which aims to empower new generations of creatives despite the challenges of the present day.

Rome, the backdrop for the encounter

The choice of Rome, in the Lazio region, is no coincidence: the Eternal City, a millennial crossroads of cultures, provides the Biennale with an ideal setting for an event that makes the encounter between different peoples and artistic sensibilities its very reason for being. Sala Margana, with its Roman-era Ionic capitals and ancient columns, bridges the city's historical memory with the contemporary research of the exhibiting artists.

Inauguration and awards ceremony

The inauguration is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 8:00 PM. The exhibition continues until September 28, offering visitors ten days of displays in the Roman historic center. The awards ceremony, which recognizes the most significant works selected by the jury, is scheduled for January 12, 2027, in a prestigious hall at the Capitoline Hill, the seat of Rome's City Hall.
