A summer evening among the stone houses of a Valsesia village
On June 20, 2026, Rassa participates for the first time in the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy. This national event, now in its eleventh edition, transforms over 200 Italian villages each year at the start of summer into stages filled with music, lights, and starlit atmosphere. For this small municipality in the Valsesia valley, in the province of Vercelli (Piedmont), it is a debut full of significance: Rassa joined the prestigious I Borghi piรน Belli d'Italia circuit with the official flag-raising ceremony held in June 2025.
The guiding theme chosen for the 2026 Romantic Night is "Love for our villages, our memories, and the heritage that unites us": an invitation to rediscover the places of the heart and the roots of small mountain communities. In Rassa, this theme finds a perfect setting among stone houses with traditional slate roofs, medieval bridges, and the historic districts that make up the village.
Nestled at an altitude of approximately 917 meters at the confluence of the Sorba and Gronda streams, Rassa has only a few dozen inhabitants and is nicknamed "the village of the Tremendi". The historic center, entirely uphill, is divided into five districts and preserves traces of a past defined by workshops, stables, and woodworking. Don't miss the Wood Ecomuseum with the "Resga dj Brasei" hydraulic sawmill, a precious example of pre-modern industrial archaeology, and the hiking trails that climb toward the valley's mountain pastures.
The Romantic Night in Rassa is the ideal opportunity to combine a short mountain getaway with a widespread celebration, honoring the beauty of Italy's small towns.
For its first participation in the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, Rassa offers an intimate and charming evening in its historic stone center. The 2026 edition, the eleventh at the national level, is themed "Love for our villages, our memories, and the heritage that unites us".
The event is part of the national initiative involving over 200 villages in the I Borghi piรน Belli d'Italia circuit.
Rassa can be reached by car by driving up the Valsesia valley: from Varallo, continue along the Sorba stream valley until you reach the village. The nearest train station is Varallo Sesia, from which you can continue by car or local bus connections.
The aperitif and romantic dinner at the Locanda delle Alpi require reservations by calling +39 379 286 1569. Booking in advance is recommended due to the village's limited capacity.
Wear comfortable shoes: the historic center is entirely uphill and made of stone alleys. Mountain evenings can be cool even in June, so a light jacket is useful.
