About Romantic Night

The Romantic Night transforms Castiglione di Sicilia, one of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy nestled between Mount Etna and the Alcantara Gorges, into a stage for love. For one evening, the historic center is adorned with hearts, flowers, and balloons: squares come alive with live music, churches and museums stay open late, sunset aperitifs are held at Castello di Lauria with views of the volcano, romantic menus are served in local restaurants, and at the stroke of midnight, couples toast together with a balloon release under the Sicilian sky.

A night dedicated to love in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy

The Romantic Night is a national event promoted by the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy association. Every year, around the summer solstice, it simultaneously illuminates the historic centers of participating towns with a single, grand celebration dedicated to love and affection. Castiglione di Sicilia, in the Province of Catania, participates enthusiastically in this event, offering visitors an unforgettable evening of art, music, and the charm of its medieval village.

Castiglione di Sicilia, a jewel between Etna and the Alcantara

The village of Castiglione di Sicilia stands on a hill between the northern slopes of Mount Etna and the spectacular Alcantara Gorges, dominated by the ruins of a Norman castle. Narrow alleys, historic palaces, ancient churches, and panoramic views provide the perfect backdrop for a night designed for lovers and those looking to rediscover the authentic beauty of inland Sicily.

A journey of emotions in the village squares

During the Romantic Night, the historic center comes alive in several spots simultaneously. The main squares host live music, performances, and themed installations, while the alleys are filled with corners set up for selfies and portraits, craft displays, and markets. There are also moments dedicated to families and children, with entertainment and balloons.

  • Piazza Lauria: live music, photo booths, poetic performances, and the highly anticipated midnight toast;
  • Piazza Sant'Antonio: concerts, local craft markets, and interactive love-themed stations;
  • Piazza San Martino: musical performances and street shows throughout the village.

Special openings and local flavors

The evening is also an opportunity to visit the village's heritage: churches, museums, and monuments remain open until late, from the Basilica of the Madonna della Catena to the Church-Museum of Sant'Antonio, and the evocative Norman bell tower. At Castello di Lauria, home to the Regional Wine Shop, a sunset aperitif is held with views of Mount Etna, accompanied by live music. Local restaurants and shops offer romantic menus, tastings of Etna wines, and traditional products, thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality, Pro Loco, cultural associations, the parish, and local businesses.

The midnight toast

The most anticipated moment arrives at the stroke of midnight, when couples and visitors gather in the square for a romantic toast and the release of balloons, a symbolic gesture that has characterized the Romantic Night across Italy for years. A poetic finale that concludes an evening capable of blending tradition, culture, and that special atmosphere only a Sicilian village can offer.
