About Romans Langobardorum

Romans Langobardorum is the largest Lombard historical reenactment in Europe, held every June in Romans d'Isonzo (GO), on the site of an important Lombard necropolis discovered in 1986. Dozens of reenactment groups from across the continent bring the Invicta Luporum Lombard Village to life with encampments, combat, equestrian shows, tribal games, and a craft market, to revive the era of the great migrations.

A Journey into the World of the Lombards

In Romans d'Isonzo, in the province of Gorizia, time travels back almost fifteen hundred years every June. Romans Langobardorum is the largest historical reenactment dedicated to the Lombards in Europe, organized by the Invicti Lupi Association in the evocative Invicta Luporum Lombard Village, a reconstruction project of a settlement from the era of the great migrations.

The event stems from a deep connection with the territory: it was in Romans, in 1986, that an important Lombard necropolis was discovered, one of the most significant testimonies of this people's presence in Friuli. From that discovery, a journey began that has transformed the town into a reference point for international historical reenactment.

Dozens of Groups from All Over Europe

Each edition attracts around twenty or more reenactment groups from numerous countries, as well as various Italian regions: an international community of enthusiasts who meticulously reconstruct the clothing, weapons, crafts, and daily life of the early Middle Ages. The encampments become a living village where the public can observe the life of that era up close.

Combat, Tribal Games, and Crafts

The program offers a 360-degree immersive experience: combat demonstrations, equestrian shows, academic conferences, workshops for adults and children, a craft market, theatrical performances, and moments of camp life. Alongside these are now traditional events such as the Lombard Tribal Games, the sculpture and metallurgy symposium Faber Langobardorum, and the Convivium Langobardorum, a historical cooking competition.

A Shared Heritage

Organized by the Invicti Lupi Association with the support of the Municipality of Romans d'Isonzo, Romans Langobardorum combines education, research, and entertainment. For history enthusiasts and families, it is a unique opportunity to discover the Lombard roots of Friuli Venezia Giulia in an authentic and engaging context.

Romans Langobardorum — edition 2026

The 14th edition of Romans Langobardorum takes place from June 12th to 14th, 2026, in Romans d'Isonzo, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the discovery of the Lombard necropolis (1986). Twenty-six reenactment groups from twelve countries bring the Invicta Luporum Lombard Village to life with combat, tribal games, symposiums, and a craft market.

The 14th Edition

From June 12th to 14th, 2026, Romans d'Isonzo hosts the fourteenth edition of Romans Langobardorum, titled "The Necropolis of Romans: The Great Discovery" and dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the discovery of the Lombard necropolis, which occurred on June 9th, 1986.

The edition brings together 26 reenactment groups from twelve countries (Argentina, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Slovakia, and Hungary) as well as numerous Italian groups, in the Invicta Luporum Lombard Village.
