Folklore groups from around the world parade from the Colosseum to the Circus Maximus
Roma in Danza is an international folklore festival held annually in August in the historic center of Rome, in the Lazio region. The event brings together folk dance troupes, choirs, majorettes, marching bands, and dance ensembles from numerous countries, all invited to showcase the costumes, music, and choreography of their respective traditions. For a few days, the Eternal City becomes a crossroads of cultures, where the folk heritage of many nations meets against the backdrop of the world's most famous monuments.
The heart of the festival is the grand parade of participating groups, which gathers in front of the Colosseum and winds through the historic center to the Circus Maximus. To the rhythm of live music and the vibrant colors of traditional costumes, the procession transforms Rome's streets and squares into an open-air stage, followed by residents and tourists alike. At the end of the parade, the groups perform on an outdoor stage set up in the city center: each ensemble presents a short program of folk dances and songs, creating a true showcase of world traditions.
Beyond the performances, the program includes days dedicated to discovering Rome: the groups visit the Colosseum, the Imperial Forums, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Vatican, Piazza Venezia, Villa Borghese, and Piazza del Popolo. The festival was created with both an artistic and touristic mission, designed to introduce participants to the city's history, cuisine, and hospitality, while offering Roman spectators a free and engaging show.
Organized by Blue Diamond Folklore Festivals as part of the international folklore festival circuit, Roma in Danza has established itself as a staple of the late Roman summer. For the public, attending the parade and performances is free: simply find a spot along the route or near the stage to be swept away by the festive atmosphere of this celebration of folk cultures in the heart of Rome.
The 2026 edition of the international folklore festival Roma in Danza takes place from August 20 to 23, 2026, in the historic center of Rome. Once again this year, folk dance troupes, choirs, majorettes, and marching bands from various countries will enliven the Capital with the grand parade from the Colosseum to the Circus Maximus and open-air stage performances. An opportunity to witness a free showcase of world traditions against the backdrop of Rome's iconic monuments.
The performance schedule may be subject to change: we recommend checking times with the organizers before the event.
The event takes place in the historic center of Rome, between the Colosseum and the Circus Maximus. By metro: Line B, Colosseum or Circus Maximus stops. Numerous bus lines serve the Imperial Forums area. We recommend reaching the center by public transport, given the restricted traffic zone.
The parade and stage performances are free of charge for the public. The groups gather in the late afternoon in front of the Colosseum; we recommend positioning yourself along the route or near the stage in advance.
Bring water and a hat: in August, Roman temperatures can be high. The area offers numerous refreshment points and allows you to combine the show with a visit to the Capital's main monuments.
