A major day of civic engagement dedicated to urban care
Roma Cura Roma - My City, My Care is the major active citizenship event where the Capital mobilizes every spring to improve the care, decorum, and enhancement of public spaces. It is not a traditional entertainment festival, but a collective celebration of the common good: for an entire day, streets, squares, parks, gardens, and historic villas are filled with volunteers who, gloves and brooms in hand, restore beauty and livability to their neighborhoods.
The strength of the event lies in its grassroots nature: initiatives are widespread across all of Rome's districts, from the historic center to the suburbs. Citizens, neighborhood committees, associations, schools, and parishes propose and carry out their own projects via the official portal, specifying the location, time, and planned activities. Each edition features hundreds of events taking place simultaneously, bringing the city to life from morning to evening.
Alongside cleaning and urban decor efforts, the program has progressively expanded to include activities that go beyond maintenance: gardening and green space care, urban vegetable gardens, environmental and cultural walks, moments to rediscover the history and identity of neighborhoods, workshops for children, animal welfare education, and inclusive initiatives. It is a way to combine civic duty with the rediscovery of the territory, involving entire communities of all ages.
The day is promoted by Roma Capitale with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle, together with AMA and a vast network of volunteer and third-sector organizations: Retake Roma, Legambiente Lazio, ACLI, MASCI, AGESCI, FAI - Rome Delegation, CSV Lazio, Plastic Free, PiùBlu ETS, and many other city associations, with technical support from Zetema and the Local Police.
A symbol of a new relationship between institutions and citizens, Roma Cura Roma has become one of the most attended civic events in the Municipality of Rome and the entire Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region. With tens of thousands of participants in each edition, the event demonstrates how caring for shared spaces can transform into a great community celebration, under the banner of the idea that "Rome belongs to everyone."
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, Roma Cura Roma - My City, My Care brought the entire Capital to life with its fifth edition, which recorded record numbers: over 20,000 participants and more than 400 initiatives distributed across all districts. Citizens, associations, and schools took part in a day dedicated to caring for common spaces, including cleaning, decorum, gardening, and rediscovering the territory.
A novelty this year, alongside urban decorum interventions, were the cultural walks and moments highlighting the history and identity of the neighborhoods. Among the symbolic places of the day, the initiative at Ponte della Musica organized by skaters and the local community with the PiùBlu ETS association, in the presence of the Mayor and the Councilor for the Environment, as well as events at Villa Borghese, Villa Fassini in District IV, and Villa Flaviana in Cinecittà Est.
The fifth edition offered over 400 initiatives simultaneously in all of Rome's districts, from morning to evening. The program, built from the bottom up through proposals from citizens and associations on the official portal, included:
Among the most significant moments, the initiative at Ponte della Musica promoted by skaters with PiùBlu ETS, in the presence of city institutions.
The event takes place on a single day in spring (usually a Saturday in May), with initiatives spread across all of Rome's districts. Event locations can be viewed on the map on the official portal.
Participation is free and open to everyone: citizens, associations, schools, and committees.
